The one style I always feel comfortable in when I am experiencing with various outfits is what I call the casual Boho.  In my definition of the term these outfits usually are simple but have enough detail to make them interesting. They are easy to move in, meaning you can run after your kids, dog in them or rush to your class and shop till you drop.

1outfit-overviewHere is one of my go to casual Boho outfits. ( Added bonus: I got the dress and the vest from Stylemint’s previous mystery box for about $40, at a fraction of their original price. More about the brand the Olsen twins made famous later)

Step 1: Find a preferably cotton blend dress in a flowy, forgiving fabric

Step 2: Layer it with a not-too fussy but textured jacket, vest, cardigan, or sweater

Step 3: Pair with ankle boots, a bit of heels is good for petite gals like me; if you have a taller frame you can totally get away with flat booties instead. 🙂

Step 4: Now it’s time to accessorize! This is where you can have a lot of fun, show your personality some more, and choose pieces that give glimpses of who you are! For instance I love vintage looking necklaces and the color orange so I started off with a long medallion , added on a fringed mid-length necklace and finished off with a delicate piece.

My advice is to mix and match different textures, colors, metals to get a not too finished look.

Step 5: Accessorize some more with a cool ring, and a bracelet of your liking. You can easily try a wrap like I did or use bangles, chains or a cuff.

Step 6: Finish off the look with an unstructured bag. This Cynthia Vincent came from the fall special edition Popsugarmusthave box.

casual bohoI spent a day with my family at my favorite bookstore running around after the kiddos from aisle to aisle half of the time, followed by a bite to eat and some shopping. This outfit is theboxqueen approved for comfort 🙂

Now try out this style and let me know what you think! Don’t forget to think out of your wardrobe box and have confidence that anyone can make any type of outfit work for them. It’s all about the attitude and why not try something new, even just for the fun of it !

  • Aylin

I absolutely Love this outfit. I could definitely wear something like this including the accessories. Does it have to be monochromatic? Can we get the same effect with different colors?

    • Nice to see you here again Aylin <3 So glad you like the suggestions:) Btw it does not have to be monochromatic at all! You can surely get the same effect mixing different colors together and textures as well. For instance I have another similar long dress in grey and I pair it with my light brown leather moto jacket and dark brown ankle boots. I always mix up jewelery; different combinations of layered necklaces, chunky rings, hoop earrings etc. I even use gold and silver together. You could also do a chunky longish cardigan for a cool effect over a flowy long or short dress! I can't wait to hear what you come up with, let me know!
Hope this helps <3<3<3 Xo, Elif

      • Aylin

Thanks for the explananation Elif. I am lamenting over several long dresses I gave away sometime ago thinking they didn’t look good on me:) Like another follower said I am not sure if I can pull it off. But again why not?

        • Aylin, I truly think anyone can make any kind of outfit work for their own body; you just need to know your body type and do the finishing touches accordingly. For instance I like accentuating my waist, so I usually belt my outfits or find slightly fitted fabrics (even in long dresses) unless I am intentionally going for a boho/grungy look.
I love your attitude of why not as this is one of my fashion motto’s. I observe that it is usually all in our heads and you can pull off any look you want as long as you have the right attitude <3<3<3 Talk soon and be sure to let me know your experiments with this style. Xo, Elif

  • Dropping by from Stylish Tuesday! I love the boho look, but I’m not really sure it’s a look I can pull off. I’m a big fan of structured pieces over flowy ones 🙂 Love the look on you though, so cool.

    <3 Vicki
