I first heard about Golden Tote a couple years ago when they were relatively small and new. It was very intriguing to learn that the creators of the high quality Puella brand (sold at stores like Anthropologie) , Sarah Becker and Sarah Sweeney, started offering a grab bag filled with boutique quality brands. These bags included their own Puella, and were presented at a huge discount. I became a fan immediately after I purchased my first tote and became addicted to their eclectic, on trend finds that were bundled up together for an amazing price.
In time Golden Tote became huge and every month when they offer either a $49 or a $149 tote ( which will be reviewed in very near future) I stay awake until midnight when the sale goes live or my sizes sell out. I think it’s best to sign up to their newsletter to receive sale updates (Golden Tote Newsletter) to make sure you don’t miss out on your sizes &your choice items.
My favorite of the January tote: Saint Grace striped scoop neck, long sweater dress.Similar items of the brand can be found @ Revolveclothing
To celebrate the start of the new year, and inspired by the Japanese New Year tradition Fukubukuro, the January tote was different than usual; a complete mystery. In regular Golden Tote sales, depending on the price point you choose, you get to pick one or two of your items. This time though for $50 they sent out four randomly selected clothing of your size, including a Puella piece. I of course jumped on this immediately and am I happy that I did!
I am completely in love with this striped dress and feel like it is distinct, pushes me a bit out of my comfort zone and I love the dress even more for that! I think the number one benefit of these mystery totes are challenging us to try new things and to steer a bit away from our ordinary.
My second piece is this jeweled tunic from the brand THML. This top is absolutely stunning in person and I dream of wearing it in summer over a denim cut-off and flat sandals. The bonus is that I don’t even need any accessories to complete the look.
My Puella item is this grey, drop waist short dress. I must say the fabric is baby soft, a common quality of all my other Puella’s. I was afraid of the drop waist at first. I warmed up to it after putting the dress on and realizing that the drop waist gives the dress a youthful vibe. I think this was what our designers were after. Here I tried the dress with tights, however I actually prefer to wear it with leggings instead, under a cropped leather jacket.
My fourth and last item is the Collective Concepts blue/pink heart top. This has black detailing around the neck, arms, and bottom and can be worn over a variety color of jeans ( here worn over my sky blues), belted and tucked in pleated & pencil skirts, or over pants. The fit is blousey instead of tight which is also a welcome change for me.
One very important detail about the whole Golden Tote experience in my opinion is how attentive, warm, and communicative the owners are! They try their best to customize the totes for everyone and go above and beyond to help out with any requests or concerns. Even the people aspect of the tote would be enough for me to be a customer forever; luckily the totes are just as wonderful!
