I first heard about Golden Tote a couple years ago when they were relatively small and new. It was very intriguing to learn that the creators of the high quality Puella brand (sold at stores like Anthropologie) , Sarah Becker and Sarah Sweeney, started offering a grab bag filled with boutique quality brands. These bags included their own Puella, and were presented at a huge discount. I became a fan immediately after I purchased my first tote and became addicted to their eclectic, on trend finds that were bundled up together for an amazing price.

In time Golden Tote became huge and every month when they offer either a $49 or a $149 tote ( which will be reviewed in very near future) I stay awake until midnight when the sale goes live or my sizes sell out. I think it’s best to sign up to their newsletter to receive sale updates (Golden Tote Newsletter) to make sure you don’t miss out on your sizes &your choice items.

Golden Tote JanuaryMy favorite of the January tote: Saint Grace striped scoop neck, long sweater dress.Similar items of the brand can be found @ Revolveclothing

To celebrate the start of the new year, and inspired by the Japanese New Year tradition Fukubukuro, the January tote was  different than usual; a complete mystery. In regular Golden Tote sales, depending on the price point you choose, you get to pick one or two of your items. This time though for $50 they sent out four randomly selected clothing of your size, including a Puella piece. I of course jumped on this immediately and am I happy that I did!

Golden Tote JanuaryI am completely in love with this striped dress and feel like it is distinct, pushes me a bit out of my comfort zone and I love the dress even more for that! I think the number one benefit of these mystery totes are challenging us to try new things and to steer a bit away from our ordinary.

Golden ToteMy second piece is this jeweled tunic from the brand THML. This top is absolutely stunning in person and I dream of wearing it in summer over a denim cut-off and flat sandals. The bonus is that I don’t even need any accessories to complete the look.

Golden Tote Puella DressMy Puella item is this grey, drop waist short dress. I must say the fabric is baby soft, a common quality of all my other Puella’s. I was afraid of the drop waist at first. I warmed up to it after putting the dress on and realizing that the drop waist gives the dress a youthful vibe. I think this was what our designers were after. Here I tried the dress with tights, however I actually prefer to wear it with leggings instead, under a cropped leather jacket.

Golden Tote Collective Concepts TopMy fourth and last item is the Collective Concepts blue/pink heart top. This has black detailing around the neck, arms, and bottom and can be worn over a variety color of jeans ( here worn over my sky blues), belted and tucked in pleated & pencil skirts, or over pants. The fit is blousey instead of tight which is also a welcome change for me.

One very important detail about the whole Golden Tote experience in my opinion is how attentive, warm, and communicative the owners are! They try their best to customize the totes for everyone and go above and beyond to help out with any requests or concerns. Even the people aspect of the tote would be enough for me to be a customer forever; luckily the totes are just as wonderful!

    • Hi Kristie, thx so much for stopping by 🙂 I am so glad you liked the pieces; what did you get in yours? Always so curious to see the different options! Xo, Elif

      • I received a Puella black/oatmeal striped maxi dress, Renee C ivory poncho sweater, sequin blazer, and a print dress. A few of the items I received in previous totes, but if I hadn’t I would have loved all my surprises!

        • @Kristie is it the sequin blazer from a couple months ago $149 tote ? That one sold out in my size but was so fab <3<3 getting duplicates is kind of a bummer; though I bet those extras would make the best gifts:) Xo, Elif

          • Yes, it was the sequin blazer from the November tote. I have it in a size small if that is your size and you’d like it. I tried to trade it on the various trading forums, but couldn’t finalize any trades. It seems like everyone who loved it, ordered it in their tote that month. It is a great piece and I got so many complements when I wore it on New Year’s Eve!

          • Kristie, thx for the offer. I would have taken it if I haven’t purchased a similar sequined jacket from the OxfordTrunk. Let’s keep each other in mind if we have anything to trade in future Golden Totes:) Seems like we are similar sizes. Xo, Elif

  • Hollie

Great review! I’ve been wanting to start a similar blog for reviewing different clothing items and I love receiving my Golden Totes monthly also! I look forward to seeing your future posts! 🙂

    • Hi Hollie,so happy to hear you like it and thx for stopping by. <3 <3 Did you get the mystery tote? What did you receive? Talk again soon, Xo, Elif

  • semazen

I really liked the long sweater dress, but i should lose weight to wear that 🙂

    • If you like them you could make it work @semazen; sweater dresses look great with curves. (and I have Spanx tights in mine 🙂 If you are uncomfortable you could wear a fitted modern blazer over the dress, sleeves rolled up and and in colored fabric maybe 🙂 <3<3 Xo, Elif

  • Tban

The sweater dress is so cute and warm. I liked how you paired it up with the booties. I am also in love with the jeweled tunic; fun

    • @Tban the dress is really cozy; I was surprised how warm and comfy it was in the freezing weather 🙂 Thx for the nice note! Isn’t the jeweled tunic great <3 Has such a resort vibe. Xo, Elif

  • We got two of the same items! I wasn’t a fan of the Puella drop waist dress, I’m short so it just doesn’t fit me correctly but it looks great on you! We kind of had the same idea on dressing it up though. (: I love the long sleeve maxi you got though! I got a few spaghetti strap maxis which are great for the spring, but it’s been in the negative degrees here in Kansas so I wish I would’ve gotten more stuff to wear in colder weather!

Check out my reviews! I ordered two. (:

    • Hi Michelle,
I am so happy you stopped by and said hi 🙂 Totally get what you mean with the spagetti straps; it’s pretty cold this winter in the NW too. I felt lucky getting the sweater dress 🙂 You will be the best dressed girl in town during summer though. <3 Xo, Elif

  • Aylin

Ok. I think I am missing something here. I couldn’t figure out when I can order a golden tote bag. Do you know when their next sale is?

    • Aylin, the sales are usually in the first week of the month. February’s start on the 3rd. Make sure to check their Website at midnight for the best selection as sometimes they go live at midnight and some items may sell out. Hope this helps! <3<3
