One trend that got me really excited is the Popart influence making a huge comeback this spring. I especially loved Prada’s Milan fashion week show when the runway was filled with super vibrant colors, & women’s faces on clothing. Six young artists painted murals on the background of the runway paying homage to the roots of popart . The movement started in the 1950’s with over the top prints and accessories and got really big in the 60’s with the influence of Andy Warhol’s popular art. ( think faces of celebrities, and a can of soup) The bold look of graphic patterns, imagery, and texts are great to push your style boundaries.
Here are some examples from designers and stores:

I totally fell in love with this dress when I laid my eyes on it and had the widest grin on my face when I found it on sale at none other than my favorite store Nordies. When a department store has it’s own cute pet nickname you know that place has some crazy fans! I think this piece is such a good transition of runway to real life. The colors, pattern, shape; all represent that certain era, in a modernized version.
Style Tip: When your foundation piece commands so much attention; it is best to keep the accessories to a minimum; simple and clean. By now many of you know, I am not one to encourage minimalism in jewelery ( you’ve seen my choices right? If not check them out here and here) however there are exceptions when you want your bold outfit to take center stage and the jewelery becomes the supporting actress.
I wanted to show you gals the details of the pattern; it was a freezing cold day ( the extents I go to for my posts haha ) so I wore my coat crush military coat over it. The two pieces had quite the fun together. Say hi to my coat here.
Style tip: Keeping my accessories simple also gave me more freedom with my beauty choices. I had a blast with the yellow nail polish and my lipstick was a brighter pinkish/reddish color. This particular trend is an amazing opportunity to try out different colors on your eyes/lips/nails.
As always don’t forget that trends are only there for inspiration. You don’t need to take them too literally; instead make them work for you and fit them into your own lifestyle and closet. By choosing pieces that are a bit of an exciting challenge but still in the realm of your style, you may discover new outfits that you initially thought you would never try. 🙂
What do you think of this trend? Have you used it or planning to add to your collection? I would love to hear about your outfits, you can even send me pictures via my email! Spring trends will continue with a new trend later this week.
