I had big plans for this weekend. For my dear theboxqueen family I would post another spring trend with a great spring outfit ( I hope) that I had ready; and for my lovely immediate family at home I would host a birthday party to celebrate my now four year old’s birthday. (today is her Bday). Di was so excited for her Bday cake, her little pals celebrating with her, and the whole party concept. (like mother like daughter we like parties around here) Instead life happened, and white, powdery, cotton like snow filled everywhere in my piece of the world in the NW.
Now this is a huge surprise. It usually doesn’t snow around here and even if it does it very rarely sticks; snow is usually followed by rain that wipes away any remaining snowflake. If I had no plans of seeing the excitement in my daughters face when she noticed all the decorations that I could not go out and buy, and the birthday cake I ordered but could not drive and get, I would have been delighted. Instead at first I got really grumpy and quite cranky which also is unusual. Luckily it did not take me too long to learn a life lesson from my kids (again!) They were so completely enamored with this pretty, vanilla like landscape; all they could think of was going out and join the play. Kids teach us so much, like living in the moment. I watched them and decided I really wanted to be a part of the fun too. I want to always remember to take life as it comes with all its surprises and revel in the moment unexpected or planned.
Did you think I would pass the opportunity to take pictures though? Of course not, not a chance. While people were snowboarding past my street (yes really) and walking with snow shoes; I told myself if spring doesn’t come to me I will bring some spring and color to myself. Snow gear to be worn later to make snow angels was put aside. I got on my baby blue jeans(Stitch Fix) my boho inspired crocheted open cardigan ( total lady on the front, party in the back), high heeled grey boots (also multitasked here) ,and my favorite Free people ( on sale) side laced sweater.
Now some people would call me a bit crazy; and they would be right. It was after all a freezing day, with a highly active snow storm. It was also a good opportunity to be a bit silly, have a good laugh with my kids and go out and do what I planned though just a bit altered. It was a practice to take life as it is and adopt to it. I promise I wore my super winterized ski gear after.
This insanely huge bow ear warmer alone made me smile instantly (Three Bird Nest) It is also super functional to keep the ears really cozy. Functional and cute, I can be on board with that. Actually when we are on topic, remember the gloves that I deemed practical but a bit boring from my Popsugar review , guess where they got handy. Another re-learned life lesson today, don’t write something off without trying. One snowstorm and I become a philosopher.
