I haven’t done one of my theboxqueen’s never out of style series (here and here for the previous posts in the series) for a while now. In these series I talk about pieces that have been around for ages but always make a comeback modernized, re-designed, or embellished for the current times.

I have been thinking to myself that I missed sharing my forever in my wardrobe pieces with you gals that I ran into her in Macy’s at my shopping trip for my kids. A cute little tee with neon polka dots staring at me wide eyed and of course my heart melted. It took me seconds to grab her and run to the register without even stopping by the dressing room first. When I came home and finally put her on it was a perfect fit. Now I call this serendipity!

Polka dots have been around for centuries and they have been a part of a variety of girl’s closets from Old Hollywood glamour actress to the 1950’s domestic goddess’s. In our times we see polka dots everywhere from scarfs to tee’s worn by every women; always with a bit of a new twist but staying the beautiful classic it is. I don’t own that many polka dot pieces, but come to think of it, I have worn polka dot dresses both in my bridal shower and at one of my kid’s baby showers. It seems like polka dots make an appearance in special events in my life.

Here are some amazing polka dot options ( I also bought the Forever 21 tee, and scarf below; they are SUCH deals) followed by my own styling of my new polka dot tee. Hope you enjoy!

Theboxqueen’s Styling

I love this modern version of polka dots with the neon bright.

Style Tip: Dressing up simple tee’s like this one here is great for multi-tasking your top for more glam outfits. Here, combined with a chiffon flowy skirt from Golden Tote , ( they have monthly tote sales, amazing deals on boutique brands, you can sign-up the newsletter for sales news), and lace peep toe shooties, the top takes on a much fancier role.

My Maison Jules tee is sold out online but here are some other great Polka dot pieces by the same brand.

IMG_0389Style Tip: A wide belt (with a lot of detailing here) is perfect for any body type as a figure flattering accessory, defining the waist and your curves. I like to mix it up with different styles in my outfits so I added on a metal studded belt to offset the extreme girliness. You can use any wide belt, more classic or modern, to achieve your desired taste.

Love this classic with a twist. I have been wearing polka dots for years when you come to think of it. Love your tee, very cute and an everyday piece. From the list my favorites are the first dress, green sleeveless shirt and the scarf. Really enjoy all your style posts!

    • I am very happy to add the tee to my wardrobe; it’s one of the few casual polka dot pieces I own and it would go with everything which of course I love. You listed some great favorites; I bought that scarf actually and it is a really good addition to so many tops. I am so so happy you enjoy my style posts 🙂 thx so much for all the support! XOXO, Elif

  • I love everything about this! The details are great and show that you put just enough thought into your outfits to make them special! I’ve always loved dots, but even more so over the last 2-3 years! I can’t say I love them as much as stripes, but they certainly come in a close second! Especially with tops like yours!

    • I have been into polka dots on and off, I own only a handful of them but notice that in my special days I have used them historically so that should mean something haha. Lately I have been into them again and love coming across smt I love coincidentally. Thx so much for the lovely note as always! ( Btw stripes are major and that’s a fact LOL ) XOXO, Elif

  • Cheryl

Great post! I love polka dot prints, and I really love how you styled your tee- I’ll have to try that myself. 🙂 Love your site, too!

    • I am SO happy to know you are enjoying theboxqueen; means a lot Cheryl! <3 Aren't polka dots fun? I would love to see how you style your polka dots too! Thx so much for all the sweetness! XOXO, Elif

  • Rachel G

I think you are definitely right–polka dots will always be around in some form or another. I own several pieces of this pattern, of course! And I love your story of instantaneously falling in love with this top, sounds like the kind of thing I would do!

    • Rachel I would think polka dots would suit your personality from what I’ve seen from your blog so far; I feel like they are very you! 🙂 Finding the top was such a nice coincidence, one of the beauties of life these moments! Thx so much for chatting with me! XOXO, Elif

  • I so agree…there is nothing cuter than polka dots! I have a chambray shirt with tiny white polka dots that I wear often, and I just received a new knit shirt with polka dots from Stitchfix.

Love your outfit. Your belt and shoes are so stylish.

    • Amy chambray shirt with white polka dots sounds so incredibly charming! I would love to see that! Stitchfix features really cute polka dots and it’s shocking I have not received any from them yet the big fan that I am LOL. Thx so much for all the kind words; I am so happy you stopped by! XOXO, Elif

  • Such fun and classic styling. I am a huge polka dot fan and actually have that scarf from F21. I don’t think they will ever go out of style!! Thank goodness! 🙂

    • Don’t you love that F21 scarf? I have already used it a million times. 🙂 Thx for all the lovely words Shanna, made me so so happy! <3 Thx so much for stopping by!! XOXO, Elif

  • the polka dot tee is so cute 🙂 i love how you styled it!!

  • Tban

Such a fun and comfy combination. Beautiful detailing on the bottom of the skirt.

    • Exactly what it felt like when I was wearing the outfit Tban, so comfy chic with surprise little details. <3<3 XOXO, Elif

  • The polka dots are always so chic and elegant 🙂
Your dotted top combined with this amazing maxi skirt makes such a lovely, feminine and chic look!

    • Thanks so much for all the sweet words Lu, all those things were what I was trying to accomplish with the outfit! <3 and yes polka dots are always in! XOXO, Elif

  • I agree that polka dots are classic! We’ve seen them seasons after seasons for many years! You look so pretty in your dress, thanks to your svelte body

    Mrs Jack Of All Trades

    • Thanks so much Mrs C for your nice words and for stopping by!!! XOXO, Elif

  • Darcy

I think polka dots are so fun! It is a great pattern to have in the wardrobe. Love your look!

    • Thx Darcy <3 Agreed that it is a nice go-to fun piece to have in your closet! XOXO, Elif

  • Elif, I have a playful fashion challenge for you :

Never out of Style – Stripes verses Polka Dots – which one is better?

As always, you are so darling!

    • Karen that is one fashion challenge that is just to hard and super fun as I find style challenges so exciting ! I absolutely adore both as patterns and all time classics. I don’t own much polka dots but they always appear on my special days however I wear a TON of stripes daily. Himmm need to put my thinking cap on and think a bit for that one haha. XOXO, Elif

  • I actually love polka dots on other people and I like them when I see them on hangers (like the Express polka dot blazer…so cute) but then on me…notsomuch. I have only one thing with polka dots and I think it will remain my only piece because I just don’t feel like myself in them! I’m weird like that. Buuuut, I love your fun styling here with the long skirt + t-shirt + great shoes. I just know *I* couldn’t pull it off!

    • Totally get what you mean Gina, we all have that one style we like on others but don’t really feel it suits us. I always say for me it is crops; not that it would not be possible to make a cute outfit with them. I just feel, unless I am at the beach, they are not really me for everyday around town. On the other hand I know girls that love them and rock them and kudos for that! Fashion is so subjective, taking what you like and making it your own is the best part of it! XOXO, Elif
