It’s time for another Golden Tote review. This month I splurged for the big tote, and how could I not? That elephant dress had me at hello when GT first  published a spoiler on their Facebook page; then the white eyelet dress made a debut and there was no looking back for me! 🙂 This has been a very smart decision actually; as you will  yourself see soon what great six pieces I have received. The day of the Golden Tote package arrival is a day of celebration at my house. My kids, especially my two girls, wait as impatiently as I while I open up the box; speculating on what’s inside. They were totally gaga over the elephant dress as expected; my four year old even suggested I wear it to the zoo to visit, well, the elephants. I didn’t really have a clever comeback for that!

If you are new to theboxqueen Golden Tote party, you may want to start by reading my previous reviews; February tote, and January tote.  Here is also a quick recap on what the company is all about.

Two friends, and the creators of wildly successful brand Puella sold at Antropologie, Sarah Becker and Sarah Sweeney offered limited time grab bags years ago to clear out their inventory. These packages filled mostly with their Puella items sold out immediately and they decided to create Golden Tote.  It’s a monthly grab bag filled with boutique quality brands and surprise items, chosen by the two ladies who have seriously impeccable taste. I have been a Golden Tote fanatic from the very beginning and I can assure these ladies find the most stylish, eclectic, on trend pieces that are most importantly also some of the most versatile pieces I own. One very important detail about the whole Golden Tote experience in my opinion is how attentive, warm, and communicative the owners are! They try their best to customize the totes for everyone and go above and beyond to help out with any requests or concerns. Even the people aspect of the tote would be enough for me to be a customer forever; luckily the totes are just as wonderful!

One thing to note about Golden Tote sales is that your favorite items usually fly of the shelves in mere minutes. They have a newsletter they send with styling suggestions, and all sales information that is super useful. It’s free to sign up and vital to be aware of their new offerings. Most of us fans have even been known to arrange our days around the monthly GT sales. In my house the start of the sale days ( unless there is an urgent family matter) I am in front of the computer at 9:00 sharp- no kidding too! I know some friends who arrange their work to have a few minutes to spare to purchase the totes at their offices. It’s that serious. 🙂

You are getting anxious to see the pretties right?; so am I to show you!  Here we begin. For my choice items I will include Golden Tote styling cards followed by theboxqueen styling.

Golden Tote Review - March 2014

Golden Tote includes styling cards with your choice items. These card show possible outfit ideas, complete with shoe, accessory, handbag options. GT styled one of my choice items, the eyelet dress, with a trench coat. Honestly I did not think of styling mine this way; however I have a trench coat that I love, and I thought why not give this a try!

Theboxqueen’s Styling

Golden Tote Review - March 2014

Instead of the black trench coat Golden Tote suggested, I opted for a classic beige/brown one. I think accessorized with nude shoes and a neutral leopard clutch, this trench coat and the dress became very spring appropriate.

Golden Tote Review - March 2014

I loved how the dress by Beautifully has adjustable straps on both sides which is like a built-in belt.

Style tip: With sheath type of dresses, I almost always recommend some kind of belting, or like in this case cinch at the waist. Some sheath dresses are close cut to the body and may not require an extra waist definition; but I think in general, for most of us girls, boxier cut sheath dresses look miles better with a thin belt.

Golden Tote Review - March 2014

I also belted my trench coat listening to my own advice and defined the waist of the dress even more!

Golden Tote Review - March 2014

White bracelet with chain and keys detail added some luxury to the look supported by the glam leopard clutch.

Golden Tote Review - March 2014

I will be wearing my eyelet dress to lunches, dinners,  and events styled like this and during the day it will get a lot of use matched with flat sandals, a floppy straw hat, and an oversized bag.

Priddy by Puella Dress – Surprise Item

Golden Tote Review - March 2014My first surprise item out of the tote was this super pretty, and soft Priddy by Puella dress- Puella’s sister brand. I have seen this dress in spoilers posted through the Golden Tote Trade Group. ( You have to join if you haven’t already, nicest ladies EVER! ) I squeaked with joy when I saw that I got the grey version. There is also a stunning black/white version of the same dress but I already got a Golden Tote slim fit dress in those colors last year. The shape of this dress is oh so darling and the back of it holds an adorable surprise!

Golden Tote Review - March 2014

For me there is something super special in a pink and grey combination. When I saw this beautiful necklace at Forever 21 it took me less than a minute to put it in my cart. How lovely is the two colors together, and notice the silver sparkles in the middle of the flowers; aren’t they really complimentary to the grey in the dress?

Golden Tote Review - March 2014

These are earrings from the same shopping day. ( mine is sold-out here is a as cute style on sale) The necklace and these earrings were not a matching set, and I don’t really have a matchy matchy style but who can resist pink flowers on their ears? Not me for sure!

Golden Tote Priddy by Puella Dress

The back is what makes this dress for me. ( amongst many other qualities such as a super soft fabric and a great fit) I love how the top part make a V scoop and the peak-a -boo section near the waist makes the dress look like a two piece from the back. Love these kind of details!

Jealous Tomato Ikat Back Open Cardigan – Surprise Item

Golden Tote Review - March 2014

How does Golden Tote  know I love open knit cardigans ; and more importantly Ikat prints! In this cardigan both of these elements live happily together and the knit immediately became a casual day style saver for me. Whenever I have to run out in a hurry; I put this over my outfits and instantly become more casually put together. In the above picture, I wore the Jealous Tomato cardigan to a Sunday outing with my family.

Golden Tote Review - March 2014

Style Tip: I think with casual outfits accessories make all the difference. You can make jeans. a tee, and a cardigan stand out by a good shoe, a cute bag, or some unique jewelry. Here I attempted to do just that with these gray suede ankle strap shoes, a mini shoulder strap bag, a two finger arrow shaped ring, and a snake shaped ring. Have some eye-catching accessories ready on a tray on your dresser so even when you are in a rush you can quickly grab them and accessorize!

Golden Tote Review 2014 March

The back of the cardigan. I have an asymmetrical top under so the cardigan actually ends a couple inches below my waist.

Golden Tote Review March 2014

My second pick was the famous Porridge elephant print dress. Golden Tote styled this dress with beautiful black heels, and a black jacket. I had something similar in mind even before I saw the style cards so I went with that minus the jacket.

Golden Tote Review - March 2014

The dress styled by big strapped high heels.

Golden Tote March 2014

Isn’t the yellow sash, and tiered strapless bodice in a unique sweetheart shape, out of this world adorable?

Golden Tote March 2014

As this dress reminded me of the 1950’s with it’s unique shape and bow sash; I used a ring and bracelets with a vintage feel to emphasize the styling of that era.

Style Tip: When accessorizing you can get your hint from the style of the individual main piece.  A lot of times I use accessories to make contrast and add style layers ( for instance ladylike look with edgy pieces) ; however If there is a strong connection to a certain era like this dress, you may not want to compete with that. Instead it may be a better idea to add to that feel with your accessories.

Ellison Lace Knit – Surprise Item

Golden Tote March 2014

Ok now I know for sure Golden Tote knows me well! After the Ikat print, they gave me a lace back, lace trim thin knit sweater! My first instinct was to pair this with leggings or my skinny jeans. I am sure I’ll wear it exactly like that many times in the coming days. I also thought this top would go great with a short, slim fit skirt. I love using white and navy together so I went for that color combo.

Golden Tote March 2014

For accessories a purple/navy handbag, gray suede boots, and lilac long necklace along with a chunky ring pulled the outfit together. This outfit is sophisticated enough for work, or a girl’s day out but casual enough to wear during time out with family.

Golden Tote Review - March 2014

Style Tip: You can try boots with thick high heels for a more day appropriate look. The look with the boots can easily be worn for a night out too but you always have the option to swap the boots with pumps or heeled sandals for an evening out if you want to go more glam!

Porridge Tee with Printed Back – Surprise Item

Golden tote Review - March 2014

Golden Tote also sneak peaked this Porridge Tee with a duck print on the back and mentioned it comes in various other prints. They said they would include it with the first 1000 totes as a surprise item. After seeing a lot of the print options I was hoping for either the duck print or the poppies and I got the beautiful red flowers.

Style Tip: I wanted to take the road less traveled with the styling, and decided to come up with a sophisticated, and ladylike look. Tucking the tee in a full eyelet skirt, and adding a statement necklace, a classic patent black belt, and black pumps transformed the tee into a fancier piece. Try wearing your casual graphic tee’s or V-necks tucked in a full skirt. This lets you multitask ( my pre-requisite for any piece that will have it’s place in my closet- if you haven’t checked out my triple threat series here they are! ) your casual pieces.

Golden tote Review - March 2014

I untucked the shirt to show you the back of the tee! Love the vibrant red poppies.

  • OK first, the location and scenery from your first look (the eyelet dress) are AMAZING and make me miss the Northwest! Second, so many fun looks in this set! My personal favorite is the grey & white striped dress because I could see that being very versatile for casual and slightly more dressy events depending on shoe, jacket choices etc. Plus I LOVE the cut out back on it.
    Gina
    On the Daily Express

    • Gina the NW is stunning with the landscape I agree; if only we got a bit more sunshine; still I LOVE all the green! 🙂 Totally agree with the striped dress; I think in summer I will wear that a lot day and night. I seriously squeaked when I saw the back peak-a-boo detail! 🙂 Thx so much for stopping by; always so fun chatting with you! XOXO, Elif

  • These are ALL fabulous. Such a success. I would love these to pieces. Both dresses look gorgeous on you. I love how you styled them. The vintage looking bracelet looks great with the elephant dress. I think you’re right – it does have a vintage feel.

    • They really are all success’s! I think by now GT really knows my style. I seriously would have picked all the pieces myself in a store. So happy you liked the styling; I love mixing it up with different era styling once in a while and the elephant dress is so vintagey chic ( if there is a word like that LOL) thx for all the sweetness Karen! <3 XOXO, Elif

  • LOVING your tote! Especially the striped dress!

    • Shelby me too! That’s one of my top three! 🙂 Thx so much for stopping by! XOXO, Elif

  • I love the ring in the first photo! Stunning

  • I feel like I absolutely NEED that cute Elephant dress!

    • They used to sell it at Antropologie, maybe you can find it online because I think the dress is definitely worth searching for. I screamed when I saw the cute bodice in person, close-up hahahha 🙂 Thx so much for stopping by <3 XOXO, Elif

  • You could make at least 5 different posts out of this article – so many features that I don’t know where to start from. 🙂
The white cut out dress is so beautiful – I absolutely loved it when you posted your photo on Instagram. The shape of the LBD with elephants is so flattering too. You look stunning on all the photos, Elif!

    Lu,
    http://www.balgarka.co.uk

    • That’s what my hubby said too Lu; six pieces lots of styling and details haha. Luckily, I really really enjoy the challenge<3 🙂 Thx so much for the warmest compliments my dear, you made me smile! I adore the eyelet dress- such a versatile piece for summer days strolling or any event with different accessories. The elephant dress is like a billboard luck charm for me haha; and the bodice is gorgeous in person. Ahhhh I am way too excited about these clothes. :):):) XOXO, Elif

  • Nuray

Love this whole post! It must have taken you ages to work on this. It’s so detailed and I am admiring all of it! The white eyelet dress is perfect for a summer/spring cocktail. Very elegant. The elephant dress is adorable. Love the yellow bow and the strapless neckline. I really want the lace top too, great casual piece. Great job once again Elif!

    • So happy to know you enjoyed the post Nuray <3 I do recommend that lace top - or smt. similar- for spring; perfect lightweight piece so many outfits can be made with it too! Thx for all the support, I really appreciate it <3<3 XOXO, Elif

  • Cheryl

Love your post! And I love how you styled all of your pieces, you’re giving me some great ideas. I also chose the elephant dress and I picked the chevron open cardigan as my 2nd item. Like you, I received the Puella dress (love!) and I got the blue and white printed Porridge tee, which is the one that I wanted. Overall I am so pleased with Golden Tote. I’m already excited for the April tote!

    • Cheryl yayyy I can jump up and down that my outfits may have given you some ideas 🙂 Made me so so happy! The chevron open cardigan is a great piece too; if only I didn’t already own a ridicilous amount of chevron I would have added it on. The Puella dress seems like it’s everyone’s favorite. Puella is great at finding those casual chic styles that seem like a breeze; so easy yet so special. The back of the dress made me so excited it was funny! Thx so much for saying hi, I always really enjoy chatting with you. <3<3 XOXO, Elif

  • Tban

Each and every piece is adorable. You look beautiful! If i have to really really have to pick one, i would choose the eyelet dress. But again love all and the accessories as well.

    • Thx my darling Tban! <3 That eyelet dress is definitely in the top three from this tote. I can't wait to style it casually too with a hat/flats/oversized bag for summer. XOXO, Elif

  • I am seriously DYING over that gray and white striped dress! I loved it already from the front view – you look bangin’ in it, girl! Then, when I saw the back view of it, I literally out loud said – “nuh-uh!!’ Because I was in disbelief that the perfect dress could be more perfect! You would get so much use out of that! The possibilities are endless!

    • You made me laugh out loud Carylee- always so cute! That’s what I thought when I first saw that striped dress and saw the back of it hahahaha. Thx for the nice compliments, makes me smile when I am sitting here writing this in gym clothes hahaha. <3<3 The dress is crazy versatile- I think it will stay in my closet for a long time! Great chatting with you as always, XOXO, Elif

  • WHOO HOO!!! All these options look fantastic on you! What a fun tote to receive! My faves on you (and just in general) are the Easy Eyelette dress and the Elephant Dress. Both look great on you! Oooooh, I so want to do a large tote in April! I’ll have to see if I can make it happen. Loved your post! 🙂 ps – my GT post is coming soon, I had a few projects I needed to wrap up before I could have fun with blogging again! 😀

    • Isn’t it such a great tote Alana? I know it would be good; but so pleasantly surprised when each item was so adorable! Those two dresses in particular are amazing- I think with GT if you love your choice items as I did mine (those two) in the end it comes out to be such a wonderful surprise! Will check out your post for sure when it’s up! XOXO, Elif

  • I have never heard of the Golden Tote before. How do they compare price wise with Stitch Fix. The lace dress was my fav and the elephant dress I would never wear (mostly because I’m too old for the style), but it’s so creative and unusual I love it!

    • Amy I think GT and SF are similar and different. I am a big fan of both! They are similar as they are both clothing subs and send out boutique quality nice brands (actually a lot of the pieces show up in both in different times). They are also different because with SF you get to send back what you don’t want and GT is all or nothing deal but you get to choose one or two items you will get for sure depending on the price point. Btw I LOVE those two dresses to pieces- the elephant one is like you said super creative and the eyelet one is cute and versatile. XOXO, Elif

  • sibel

I really like all of them. My favorites are the elephant print and the eyelet dress. GT is my first favorite box, Stitch fix is the second. Strapless style and the cut give a sexy impression, while cute animals and black&white colors add a more casual and light ambiance. I also noted the flower-pattern necklace and matching earrings.

    • Sibel you chose two of my faves out of the tote. I love everything but those two dresses are so special! I really enjoyed all the accessorizing too. I recently found the flower necklace and earring and loved their color, snatched them right up haha 🙂 I think you would like both subs; they are both offer smt. different! XOXO, Elif

  • I love everything in your tote and of course the way you styled everything looks perfect! I fell in love with the striped Priddy by Puella dress and had to buy it off someone. I’m hoping I can pair it with a bright tank for a fun pop of color in the back (and that way I don’t have to worry about what type of undergarment to wear). Not sure it will work, because I don’t actually have the dress in my hands yet, but I can’t wait to see it in person.

What do you think of the GT spoilers for April? I’m loving the navy print dress with the back detail, but I’m not sure I can pull that one off.

    Kristie
    Can’t Stop Subscribing

    • I am so happy for you that you were able to find that dress Kristie; the Priddy by Puella is one cute dress. I was able to hide my bra straps under the back. I think there is no reason why you wouldn’t be able to wear a tank under though. Actually a ballet pink, or a soft lilac would go with the elegant look of the dress or you could do a bright color like you said for a pop; endless styling opportunities there :-)) You made me smile with your sweet comment; so happy you liked my styling; thanks <3 <3 For April, I really liked the same dress you mentioned( super cute for a beach vacation) and also there was a long dress with embroidery on top and tassels on the bottom; looked intriguing. XOXO, Elif

  • Another fantastic post, Elif. I love your styling and so appreciate the thought and care you put into your photos. I completely agree about the fabulousness of the Priddy dress even though it’s totally not something I would initially gravitate toward. I am now more tempted than ever to try Golden Tote for the first time. Stalking it for April!

    • Thx so much for all the sweetness Lauren. So happy to chat with you again! 🙂 I truly enjoyed styling all the pieces as I really loved them and it feels great that it somehow showed. <3 The Priddy dress has a lot of possibility as all the other pieces. Have an amazing week, XOXO, Elif

  • Lindsey Wright

I’m a loyal Stitch Fix fan but you totally inspired me to try Golden Tote out as well. So, I ordered one last week, got it on Monday and I LOVED it. I’m a Seattleite, so I am so happy to have found a Pacific Northwest fashionista to follow. I am absolutely fashion challenged when left to my own devices so I am truly thankful for you, your posts and all of your styling inspiration!

    • Lindsey you totally made my day! I am so very happy that I could be a source of even a bit of inspiration and that you enjoy what you find here! <3 What makes blogging fun and worth it is these kind of connections we make! Isn't GT great? I have to see what you got; e-mail me a pic or post one on theboxqueen Facebook; would love to share the excitement! 🙂 If you are ever in a style pickle of any kind just send me an e-mail and I would help any way I can! Btw you live in an amazing city; we LOVE Seattle and I am also so happy to learn you are a fellow Northwestern. Talk soon lovely lady, XOXO, Elif

  • That elephant dress is just gorgeous!! I could definitely imagine wearing a dress like that! You got so many beautiful items!

    • The elephant dress is so quirky and fun that I can’t get over it haha; thx Rachel! This month was insane. <3<3 XOXO, Elif

  • Fashionguru

I love this post and since I read it, been waiting for April GT, and there it was; tired of refreshing the page several times a day since April first I made my order today! I can’t wait for my GT to arrive. Thanks Elif!

    • Ahhhhh so excited to hear you are trying out GT for the first time! You HAVE to share what you get with me; can’t wait to hear all about it! I still remember how excited I was when I put in my first order yrs ago :-)) Keep me updated lovely lady <3<3 XOXO, Elif
