Since I saw the midi skirts on the runways, I thought they were so stylish. The length is very lady-like, and has a retro feel that can at the same time be so modern. I also knew though, the tea-length can be very tricky, and without the right fit and type of skirt, it can be unflattering.  While browsing online, I saw a very uniquely shaped skirt, and went for it. Yesterday, we had an event to attend with my hubby and I made an outfit with my new midi in navy, and loved it. This outfit also got a lot of compliments from my friends at the event which inspired me to share my other finds with you, along with my own styling ( and styling tips) from Saturday afternoon.

Spring/ Summer Trends Midi - Tea- length skirts

Aren’t all the colors, different shapes, and textures of these midis beautiful? My skirt you’ll see below is #6. I am thinking my next purchases will be #3 and #7. I love the stripes on the first and the happy yellow of the second. What do you think? Have you tried tea-lenght skirts?

From Theboxqueen’s Closet

Spring/Summer Trends Midi skirtWhat drew me to this navy skirt is the form-fitting waistband, the full skirt with the well placed pleats, and of course the beyond adorable pockets. ( I have a serious thing for pockets in skirts and dresses; can’t resist them)

Style Tip: When choosing midi skirts the most important factor should be finding the most flattering fit for your body type. As a general rule, fitted waistbands work great for a lot of women, as it helps transform the look from frumpy to feminine. I also believe striking a balance with your top is crucial. For instance I chose a strong color, a bright red, to balance out the dark color of the skirt; so it won’t be all washed out. The shape of my top is not too loose or too tight which further balances out the fullness in the skirt. I prefer heels/wedges ( either sandals or pumps) with tea-lenght skirts, especially for petite or average height ladies like myself. (to give you an idea I am 5 5′ ) Although there sure are exceptions, I think this style has a tendency to make women look shorter than they are. Added height helps by pulling the look together, making it glam rather than dowdy. Don’t be afraid of midi’s just find the right one! <3

Spring/Summer Trends Tea length skirtMy top has a slight fullness to it on the sides that help emphasize the lovely waistband of my Harlowe and Graham skirt. LOVE!

Root Bizzle SubscriptionI also want to introduce you to Root Bizzle, a men’s tie club, that sends out monthly, specially curated silk ties made in Italy.  A sub for the men in your life; now that’s rare to find, and a good change for the guys who watch us receive packages after packages lol. They reached out to me to see if we would like to try out a tie from their collection. My hubby wears ties only to special events and such, ( as he has a more business casual style for work) and is very particular in the quality of his ties and suits. He really liked the quality of the tie from the business collection of Root Bizzle , and wore it with his suit to the same event. If your significant other wears a lot of ties, this sub is a great option.

I chose dark red/burgundy shoes with navy stripes and heels to complete my outfit.

Style Tip: A snake bracelet with blue stones and a mini sparkly grey metallic bag were the choice accessories. I think the bracelet is an unexpected choice for the super ladylike skirt and I love little surprises in my outfits to make them different. I recommend you to try mixing up your elegant clothing pieces with original jewelry, to make them stand out even more. Originality is refreshing in fashion. The metallic bag added to the shine pattern in the top, just a little bit more fabulousness to the sub-dued navy of the skirt. 🙂

I love this post!! I’m OBSESSED with midi skirts!!

    Jessie at Blush and Blonde

    • Aren’t they great! I am really into them lately too and love the feminine look 🙂 XOXO, Elif

  • Sophia

Perfect timing of this post. I love this type of skirts, didn’t know how to wear them. I love all your options and as always the style tips. Thx Elif!

    • You are very welcome Sophia. I am so happy to hear you found the post useful! <3 <3 When you find the perfect midi make sure to send me a pic; love seeing them! XOXO, Elif

  • I for one, am really happy longer skirts are back in style. I didn’t like the super short skirt/dress trend. Your navy blue skirt is so lovely!

    • Thx Amy, it’s nice to try out different shapes and lengths and I think tea-length is one of the most elegant ones for sure! <3<3 XOXO, Elif

  • Great styling on your midi skirt- you look super elegant! The men’s tie service is a really cool idea, too. 🙂 I haven’t tried the midi skirt trend, mainly because I’m not much of a skirt person. I bought two skirts in fall and have worn them like….3 times total. Probably not worth it. 🙁

    • Gina thx so much for the sweetness! <3 I totally get what you mean about skirts for you; there are always some items we try but not get as attached to as others or don't feel like ourselves in. I love challenging myself and usually try to find smt. that works for me in a lot of different styles, but still usually go for things that I will multi-task and use a lot. ( and this is why I have few flats as I even like my cool boots with a tad of heel haha) XOXO, Elif

  • Tban

Love the midi skirt on you! I am not a fan of midi’s because of my body type! But it looks classy and beautiful on you! And yay for the hubby support:)

    • Thx lovely lady! <3 You are tall and lean, I feel like you could actually rock midi's much more easily if you find the right one. Have you ever tried? The hubby support was awesome, 100% yay for that :-)) Always enjoy talking to you! XOXO, Elif

  • I agree, this length is classic. You’ll never have to worry that your skirt is too short when you sit down. Two fingers above or below the knee is about perfect for me.

I love that high waistband on your navy skirt and that it has pockets! Pockets on skirts are fabulous! Such a bold combination!

    • Karen, never thought of it that way! YESSS for not worrying about skirts creeping up with midi’s ( though I wear my share of shorter styles too haha) Aren’t pockets the greatest! Gives a modern feeling to such a retro piece! <3<3 Thx for saying hi my dear! XOXO, Elif

  • I saw this outfit on Insta and love it instantly 🙂 You look stunning and this combo is simply gorgeous!

    • I am so so happy you like it my dear MrsC <3 I could not get the skirt out of my head and had to get it (especially after seeing those pockets) and had to match it with the bold red! Thx so much for the lovely words <3 XOXO, Elif

  • Cheryl

Amazing outfit! I love the skirt and I enjoyed how you accessorized the look. I, too, have been balancing my feminine looks with a “pop” of an unexpected accessory lately, and it’s just so fun. I haven’t tried midi length yet, but I am leaning towards a style like #3 for spring.

    • I know right? Something so feminine looks so great and suddenly a bit more unique with an unexpected addition 🙂 I would love to see your favorite outfits Cheryl, would love it if you posted some on theboxqueen Facebook (or e-mail me); it’s so much fun to see everyone’s spring/summer lovelies! <3<3 From the lis,t styles like #3 is surely one of my faves! Stripes and a full skirt, YES please! haha Try the tea-lenght at least once, you need to find the right piece but once you do I think it is such a cute, elegant look. Thx for chatting with me lovely lady! XOXO, Elif

  • It’s like you read my mind today! So far the pencil fit midi is the only thing I’ve been brave enough to try! Yours looks so amazing on you! So nipped in at the waist – the silhouette is very flattering you!

    • You should try it Carylee, I think the nipped waist, fuller skirt look, with high heels is quite flattering on most women. It is also so much fun, a little bit retro, a little bit glam girl. I love it.<3 Your compliments made this tired mommy feel great so thanks a bunch girly! <3 XOXO, Elif

  • Fashionguru

This outfit really looks elegant, very good choice for a casual night. I loved the top you picked with the skirt too. From the list above I would pick number 3, because I guess I am obsessed with black and white. But maybe I should try something diferent and pick the yellow one instead. 🙂

    • #3 is absolutely gorgeous; I love it and it would be a statement piece for sure. The yellow one is a bit lighter and summery for the upcoming months! Thx my dear for all the sweetness; I thought a pop of color would do the navy skirt some good and make it less serious! Let me know if you end up trying a midi style, would love to see! XOXO, Elif

  • I like that midi skirts are now such trend! I’m also a fan of the lady like and retro vibe they have. The red shirt was a great choice for your navy skirt it really makes the whole outfit pop!

    • Welcome to theboxqueen Rachel and thx for the lovely note! Totally agree midi’s are so feminine and a bit retro; a good mix of styles for sure to experiment with! XOXO, Elif

  • How did you know that I love midi skirts, Elif?! 🙂
You look so elegant and it’s nice to see that your beloved one doesn’t go any lower than you styling up his looks too!

    • He is a stylish guy for sure haha; the more reason he appreciates my love of fashion though he doesn’t totally understand the need to buy the millionth skirt, shoe, and bag :-)) Thx my dear, this is a favorite trend and outfit of mine! XOXO, Elif

  • Love this midi skirt!! What a classic combination!!

    Jenna from Visions of Vogue

    • Welcome to theboxqueen Jenna and thx so much for your note! XOXO, Elif

  • Brittany

Love the skirt on you, LOVE the shoes. Today, for the first time, I layered my necklaces. You should be proud! Your blog is a source of inspiration.

    • Yayyyy Brittany send me a pic, I want to see those beautiful layered necklaces and I do feel super happy that you find theboxqueen to be a source of inspiration. That’s my main intention and the best compliment I can receive about the blog! <3<3 Thx lovely! XOXO, Elif

  • Such a pretty and vibrant color combination! I love it! I do really like the elegance and somewhat retro vibe of midi skirts!

    • Midi skirts really rock in term of ladylike style and retro air about them! Thx Rachel! <3<3 XOXO, Elif

  • Midi skirts are so great and the best part is I always find them at the thrift store! I’m looking forward to wearing them with sensible cropped tops this spring. Love the one you got, navy is such a great color.

    • Dina Welcome to theboxqueen 🙂 Thx so much for saying hi! Anddd yeses I need to find “sensible’ crop tops just like you said to match with mine too. ( the word sensible is the emphasis love it) I always say I shy away from crop tops but I have seen longer manageable styles and I may go for it. They look great with midis. XOXO, Elif
