So happy to be back with theboxqueen’s pretties under $100. I am thinking of making this series a more regular occurrence. What do you think my lovely ladies? This week I’ve found some highly charming pieces all under $100, each one prettier than the next.
I recently acquired the Modcloth Polka dot bow tank ,and I can’t get over how adorable it is. The French Connection clutch is also a recent purchase that’ll get a lot of use in all seasons. Next on my wish list is one of those skirts. I love the color of the yellow one, but can’t say no to florals. What do you gals think?

Also this week, during my travels, I had the chance to stop by one of my favorite stores of all time; ZARA. It’s one of my dearest international fashion companies. They update their collections throughout the seasons so very often that there is always something new, and exciting. When I used to live in a city with many huge ZARA stores all over town, it was my shopping paradise. I seriously never left those stores without a purchase, ever.
I was reunited with my college years’ fashion mecca a couple days ago. It was fun to see how my girls got excited for the store’s Kids section, and my four year old found the cutest straw &bow sun hat I’ve ever seen. She is one stylish girlie, that one. Even chooses my outfits sometimes. 🙂
Anyways, as I made my way to the register for my girls (the register is conveniently located in the women’s section) this pink asymmetrical skirt with black/white floral detail was hanging oh so ladylike in a corner. In my daily life I usually pay attention to my immediate surroundings, I don’t necessarily see everything around me. ( have to be like that with my young ones) While shopping, it’s a whole another story. I suddenly have the vision of an eagle. I can notice a pretty piece of clothing from miles away 🙂 Of course you’ve guessed it by now, the pink skirt came home with us.
I had a very unusual photo shoot for this skirt. The significance of this day (late June may I add) was that it was raining. It wasn’t really raining though, it was pouring like crazy. In fact that wasn’t just pouring either, there were thunderstorms, and lightnings big time. An all over rain debacle.
If I wasn’t me (meaning a more sensible person) I would probably have turned around, call it a day, and go have a cup of coffee in a warm, cozy coffee shop. ( and this would have been the logical thing to do I admit) Of course I am me, and I got to finish what I’ve started. It was rain or shine, here I come. Some may call it stubborn, I call it determined haha. It’s all in how you look at it. 🙂 Let me just say by the end of our little photo shoot, I was soaking wet in every inch of my body.
The pink asymmetrical skirt has a very unique shape. At first look I thought it was a hi-low skirt but it really is not, it is up and down on both sides. I chose to pair it with a knit, crochet detailed top I got from Ann Taylor a couple seasons back. ( For other Ann Taylor fans they have an extra 40% off sale items, this usually ends up being a great deal) I love knit tops for their texture, and how they give an elegance to more modern, and on trend pieces just like this skirt.
Style Tip: When you have a more trendy piece to start with, balancing it with a more classic texture or color may give good results. I love to mix, and match styles in one outfit. I think those looks end up being more interesting compared to an all over trendy look. (though sometimes those are fun too.)
A close up look at the crochet detail, and the necklace which is bought from a boutique overseas.
Outfit Details: Skirt: ZARA | TOP: ANN TAYLOR | OPEN TOE BOOTIES: NINE WEST (option 1, option 2)
Which of the options above do you like? What do you think of unique hemmed skirts?
