So happy to be back with theboxqueen’s pretties under $100. I am thinking of making this series a more regular occurrence. What do you think my lovely ladies? This week I’ve found some highly charming pieces all under $100, each one prettier than the next.

I recently acquired the Modcloth Polka dot bow tank ,and I can’t get over how adorable it is. The French Connection clutch is also a recent purchase that’ll get a lot of use in all seasons. Next on my wish list is one of those skirts. I love the color of the yellow one, but can’t say no to florals. What do you gals think?

Also this week, during my travels, I had the chance to stop by one of my favorite stores of all time; ZARA. It’s one of my dearest international fashion companies. They update their collections throughout the seasons so very often that there is always something new, and exciting. When I used to live in a city with many huge ZARA stores all over town, it was my shopping paradise. I seriously never left those stores without a purchase, ever.

I was reunited with my college years’ fashion mecca a couple days ago. It was fun to see how my girls got excited for the store’s Kids section, and my four year old found the cutest straw &bow sun hat I’ve ever seen. She is one stylish girlie, that one. Even chooses my outfits sometimes. ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyways, as I made my way to the register for my girls (the register is conveniently located in the women’s section) this pink asymmetrical skirt with black/white floral detail was hanging oh so ladylike in a corner. In my daily life I usually pay attention to my immediate surroundings, I don’t necessarily see everything around me. ( have to be like that with my young ones) While shopping, it’s a whole another story. I suddenly have the vision of an eagle. I can notice a pretty piece of clothing from miles away ๐Ÿ™‚ Of course you’ve guessed it by now, the pink skirt came home with us.

I had a very unusual photo shoot for this skirt. The significance of this day (late June may I add) was that it was raining. It wasn’t really raining though, it was pouring like crazy. In fact that wasn’t just pouring either, there were thunderstorms, and lightnings big time. An all over rain debacle.

If I wasn’t me (meaning a more sensible person) I would probably have turned around, call it a day, and go have a cup of coffee in a warm, cozy coffee shop. ( and this would have been the logical thing to do I admit) Of course I am me, and I got to finish what I’ve started. It was rain or shine, here I come. Some may callย it stubborn, I call it determined haha. It’s all in how you look at it. ๐Ÿ™‚ Let me just say by the end of our little photo shoot, I was soaking wet in every inch of my body.

The pink asymmetrical skirtย has a very unique shape. At first look I thought it was a hi-low skirt but it really is not, it is up and down on both sides. I chose to pair it with a knit, crochet detailed top I got from Ann Taylor a couple seasons back. ( For other Ann Taylor fans they have an extra 40% off sale items, this usually ends up being a great deal) I love knit tops for their texture, and how they give an elegance to more modern, and on trend pieces just like this skirt.

Style Tip:ย When you have a more trendy piece to start with, balancing it with a more classic texture or color may give good results. I love to mix, and match styles in one outfit. I think those looks end up being more interesting compared to an all over trendy look. (though sometimes those are fun too.)

A close up look at the crochet detail, and the necklace which is bought from a boutique overseas.

  • Jackie

I LOVE that skirt so much I just *had* to buy one online for myself! Only thing I’m wondering is how did you combat the fact that the skirt below the waistband is pretty sheer? Advice?

    Thanks for the recommendation!

    • Jackie missed this comment; it got buried in my mails for some reason. Isn’t the skirt just gorgeous and you are so very welcome my dear ๐Ÿ™‚ <3
I actually didn't have any problem with sheerness. It wasn't a sunny day I wore it so I am wondering whether it would be more sheer when worn in the daylight. I have worn it a couple times since but all was in the evening or darker weather.
My suggestion would be to wear an invisible short inside similar to the shape wear ones. Spanx should have some. I have tried this trick with a white skirt before, wore a skin colored shaping short and problem was solved.
You could also wear a skirt slip inside. Those are a bit more difficult to find in the short length but not impossible. I haven't done this myself but know a lot of ladies do.
You could also take it to a tailor and have a permanent slip sewn in. Also have done this with a sheer dress a couple yrs ago. Totally made the dress wearable.
Hope these help! Let me know. Have a wonderful weekend. XOXO, Elif
