Hi lovely ladies! It feels like my last couple of days have been immersed with Stitch Fix as I am onto my fix #17 ( sounds like A LOT right? 🙂 ) and it was quite a decision what to keep this month. ( well when isn’t it? ) It is my 17th but my enthusiasm for Stitch Fix’s white green packages have not diminished a bit. I loved all my five pieces for different reasons, and this month I’ll share with you exactly why I did/didn’t end up keeping them. Next month, Stitch Fix mystery game will come back again.
If you’ve been following along theboxqueen Stitchfix series, so happy you join us again. In case you are new to theboxqueen, first of all welcome, and you may want to start reading previous Stitch Fix reviews to get all the details on how Stitch Fix works, how to get the best fix, and see the brands, and pieces they send. It would be an understatement to say I have a lot of examples to show you.
In October my dear Stitch Fix stylist, Ishara, sent me five pieces of clothing. ( I have yet to try their jewelry, and bags – I’ve been meaning to for a while, maybe I’l go for it in my 18th fix ) An asymmetrical cardigan, a dress, a sweater, and two tops. I believe as time goes by Stitch Fix learns my style, and my wardrobe needs more, and delivers me the pieces that’ll work with my lifestyle, and activities.
I get a lot of e-mails with the question ” What do you ask for in your personal style profile?”. I ask for pieces that are suitable for a mom of three kids under the age of 10, but who also loves cool, trendy items that can easily be mixed and matched. I think you can definitely be a mom, and stay chic especially with comfy pieces high on style. In addition, I ask for colors, a variety of textures, and prints. I think these bring life to your closet, and also to your existing outfits.
Also in my style profile, I specified that I love glam, romantic, and boho styles, and like the casual, and glam styles as well. If you would like to see &follow my Pinterest Stitch Fix board here it is, I update it frequently with outfits. Hope these help! 🙂
Now onto my October fix, here are the October Stitch Fix goodness you’ve been waiting to see.
Zappo Printed sweater is a thin sweater that is knit on the back, and arms. It has a paisley type print on the front. Stitch Fix shows this sweater with jeans, and a skirt for casual, and dressed up styles.
41 Hawthorn Zappo Printed Mixed Material Sweater ($58) I thought my favorite Zara light blue, ripped jeans were a great contradiction to the put together sweater. Navy Mary Jane pumps, Popbasic clutch( get $15 off with the link, everyone can be referred once) , and red lips completed my look.
Status: SENT BACK.
Why? Although this sweater was fun to make up an outfit with, I wasn’t very fond of the paisley type print. This is kinda on me actually as I used to have paisley under my no, no’s but when I missed out on a couple of cute dresses with the print, I deleted that info from my Stitch Fix profile. I think I need to go back, and add that I am not a fan of paisley. If you like it tough, a very lovely super light sweater this is!
Stitch Fix paired the Hanzel floral top with jeans both for day & night.
Skies are Blue Hanzel Stripes & Floral Print Blouse ($48) I wanted to go another direction, and chose to use the floral top in a skirt combo. I would wear this outfit for a date night with my husband, to a social event, a moms night out, or a friends party. My BCBG skirt I bought on sale last year, Calvin Klein shoes, and Jewelmint jewelry are the supporting actresses.
Status: SENT BACK.
Why? This was a tough call. I really loved the final look, and the floral top is definitely a piece I would wear. I think I mentioned before in one of my previous posts that my philosophy is to keep only the pieces I am completely in love with, or ones I think I’ll wear over & over. ( Trying to keep my closet under control lol, it has a life of its own ) Although lovely, I have many tops super similar to this one so regretfully I sent it back.
Style Tip: Black lines play a big role in all the pieces in this look. I wanted to replicate that with the tiny belt, and I believe it adds value to the already dramatic look. I believe each fashion piece has clues in it that can give you creative ideas on how to enhance it in outfits. When styling your looks, take your cue from the pieces you chose, and accentuate the existing feel of it with accessories.
Stitch Fix made the Rahni dress casual with a jean jacket, and flats, and more glam with heels.
Yumi Rahni Printed Dress ($78) Seriously, the Rahni dress is GORGEOUS. The print is beautiful, reminds me of Iznik tiles, the colors are breathtaking ( I love blues), and the beaded detail on the neckline is a great touch. I think the neck detailing deserved an undo, (albeit a quick one here) and I added equally intricate drop earrings from my latest Wantable accessory box.

Why? This was an easy decision as the dress was a tight fit (just on the bottom) for me. It is my size, and I wear the same size in all my other dresses still. My guess is this brand, or particular dress runs a bit tighter. Although your experience may not be the same, keep this in mind if you ask for Rahni in your fixes. You can see the problem area where it wrinkles below. If not for this reason, I would 100% keep this dress. It is beautiful!!
Look at the lovely beading.
On the styling cards, Alan cardigan is shown with jeans, and over a dress.
Market and Spruce Alan Cowl Neck Asymmetrical Cardigan ($58) I wanted to mix and match both looks Stitch Fix came up with, and paired Alan Cowl Neck cardigan casually with a dress, and my Hunters. ( these boots are THE BEST– I would never think a rain boot could have so much style punch. I wear them with absolutely everything, and recommend them to just about everyone that asks about them from the moms at the playground to baristas at Starbucks. 🙂 )
Status: HAPPILY KEPT.
Why? What’s not to love? This piece fulfills all my requirements. It is perfect for fall, and upcoming winter, hello it is asymmetrical ( love little quirks like that), and it looks great open, or zipped up. There was no way I was sending this one back.
This cardigan from Modcloth is essentially the same piece of this SF cardigan as I have bought it in charcoal.
Dress: Marine Layer | Accessories: Wantable | Handbag: Foley & Corinna
I really like how Stitch Fix styled this lace overlay top. It is especially pretty with the skirt.
Market and Spruce Bernadette Lace Overlay Raglan Top ($58) This top immediately reminded me of my Free People destroyed jeans for some reason. I thought the tone of blue on the top would go really lovely with the grey of the denim. I added my boutique find shoes ( also worn here, and in my Instyle Inspired post ), my loyal Michael Kors Hamilton, and a floppy wool hat to the mix.
Status: Sent Back.
Why? This top was the second strong contender from the October Stitch Fix box. I liked that it was a long sleeve top, and the color of the lace overlay is different than what I usually have in my wardrobe. I was planning to keep just one piece from this Stitch Fix though, and at the end of the day I decided the cardigan would be a better buy for the cooler months. ( Do I deserve a round of applause for exercising self restraint ? 🙂 ) If you like lace tops, go for this one. It is an amazing top, and the fit is very flattering.
Have you ladies received any Stitch Fix’s lately? Which of my pieces do you like? Seriously can’t wait to hear what you all think!!
If you have never tried Stitch Fix, I obviously love it, and highly recommend it for a fun, exciting box to receive even if it was for once in a while ( you can request the frequency of your fixes at Stitch Fix website) I think the $20 styling fee is so worth it for the excitement, and more than not there is at least that one piece you would want to keep.
HOLIDAY GIFT ALERT: Stitch Fix is also great for the holidays as you can gift it to your loved ones. I plan to do this for a couple friends.
UPDATE!!! October 2015 Review is live now! Great fall pieces.
