Good Morning lovelies! How is your weekend going so far? I am still recovering from Halloween festivities, & all that entails for me with three super excited kids having various school parties, costumes, and trick & treating. Good thing we all love Halloween, and had a great time. Hope yours was fab as well!

Golden Tote October Review – 2014

I am so excited to be back with a brand new Golden Tote Review. In case you are new to theboxqueen, it’s best if you start by reading my previous Golden Tote reviews. There is so much information there on the company, how the monthly sales work, and many examples of brands, and kinds of styles they carry. I also strongly urge you to sign up to Golden Tote Newsletter if you haven’t already. Each month when Golden Tote announces their sales, things sell out in a matter of minutes, and that is not an exaggeration. When you are signed up, you get emails on when sales start, and also occasional style ideas, and owner interviews.

In October I went with the small tote. I was actually going to purchase the large tote this month, however I had to be at my son’s school until 9:30, was home by 10:00, and of course my favorite two picks were already sold out- the goldfish print blouse, and the anorak with patterned back. ( See why I say above, sign up to that newsletter 🙂 ) Those two were really the only picks I had from the large tote, so I decided to go with the high waisted relaxed pants in olive green from the $49 tote.

My surprise item is Cut & Sew Jewel Toned cardigan. I frequent Golden Tote Trading Group. ( a closed group any Golden Tote fan can become a part of) The girls there is just fabulous, it’s a wonderful place to chat with other GT fans, become friends, trade or sell your GT pieces.

While I was waiting on my tote, I became nervous that I would receive the Jewel Toned Cardigan as my surprise as the reviews were less than thrilling on the Facebook page. It’s Murphy’s Law right? Fear and you shall receive haha. I did end up with the Cut & Sew Cardigan, and I am so delighted to say I LOVE it!!

Golden Tote October Review – 2014

I must say I do agree with a lot of the girls. Styled just as it is, the cardigan is not very flattering. It hits my body right at my waist, and makes it look thick while giving me an extra layer of tummy I don’t really need, especially when I have enough baby pooch there. 🙂 It’s nicely longer in the back but the front needs to be longer to be used unstyled.

However listen to these two style tips that changed how I viewed this surprise piece. Maybe they’ll help you find new love for yours as well:

  • Style Tip 1: This cardigan lends itself perfectly to a boho chic look with the southwestern inspired patterns. You can tie it in the front just as I did making sure the tied up part is not too high but rests right around or below your belly button. This immediately gives you the curvy look with a defined waist, and covers any pooch that may lie there ( like mine LOL ) The long style of the back is accentuated by this styling and is more of a statement. Just add some layered necklaces, ripped jeans, any kinds of boots, and some fun accessories, and you are ready for a fun day.
  • Style Tip 2: Two days later I wore the same cardigan with a flowy, skater skirt. I let it lie flat and belted it with a wide belt. I wore a tank top inside, and finished up with booties. A slightly girlier look that solved the problem of the cardigan.

My second piece, the high waisted slouchy pants, were made from just the fabric I was imagining it would be. It has a bit of give, but it holds itself enough to look more formal when you want it to. ( compared to sweatshirt type materials) The pockets are also placed at a great angle.

Style Tip: Although I think these pants could potentially be worn with flats, I recommend that you pair them up with heels, even if it’s comfy wedges. I think the bunched up hems look best on top of high heeled shoes, and the silhouette looks slimmer with heels as the slouchy pants already add a bit of volume to the figure.

I chose a silver knit, a silver & transparent mix statement necklace to go with the outfit.

  • Love how you styled both! I actually like the cardigan a lot more song it styled like that.

    • The cardigan is such a loved piece of my closet now. Love the fabric too. 🙂 XOXO, Elif

  • Love your yellow tote – it’s actually one of my favorite colors (:

    – Deniz

    • Love yellow myself. Thanks Deniz 🙂 XOXO, Elif

  • fashionguru

Wow! The cardigan everybody wants to sell on the trading group. I loved how you styled it and the colors of the cardigan is way better on the pictures. I should grab one since it is selling very cheap right now. 🙂

    • Did you end up getting one? I love it and used it over a maxi skirt as well which I think looked even better. 🙂 Thx lovely, XOXO, Elif

  • Tban

Loved them both georgous lady. You create magic:) The pants are my fav. Although i am a little partial about the military green, you styled them to look lovely as always. Miss you<3

    • You are too sweet Tulay <3 I am partial to military green myself- think it is always so modern. Kisses, and hugs, Elif

  • Cheryl

Love how your styled your pieces! I received the same cardigan, just in a different color combo (mine is black and white). I will definitely try tying it in the front, such a great idea. The pants are really cute! Olive is such a great fall neutral. 🙂

    • Agree 100% olive is such a fall color, so is the jeweled tones of the cardigan. The black and white one would go with everything too though. 🙂 XOXO, Elif

  • Sibel&Eda

I love both of the styles. The first one is complex cool, while the second one is simple cool.

  • I also love the cut and sew cardi. I think it got a bad rap because everyone was so over it, that it kind of became a self-fulfilled prophesy for everyone to immediately dislike it. I have been wearing it with long tanks and skinnies and love it! I haven’t tried knotting it yet, though, but will soon. It looks great on you.

    • Yes sometimes that happens. I am happy I gave the card a chance 🙂 Have you tried tying the cardigan? I have worn it with a maxi since that I loved ( actually that is GT too) Thanks for saying hi dear, XOXO, Elif

  • I love both looks. The 1st ensemble is vibrant and fun; meanwhile, the 2nd look is classic and sophisticated. Happy Monday Elif 🙂

    • Thanks so much for the sweetness. So happy you stopped by. XOXO, Elif

  • Darcy

Great looks! I really love your floppy hat!

    • Floppy hats have my heart :-)) Thanks Darcy! XOXO, Elif

  • Love the fun hat plus the jewel toned cardi!

    • Thanks Lorna. I am fans of both myself. XOXO, Elif

  • What a cute yellow tote! It’s a great size and perfect color for fall!

    • I got the Zara tote when it first came out end of summer when I was traveling and so happy I did. Thx dear, XOXO, Elif

  • Didn’t I say it on IG: the grey jeans are a great base for this multi-colour cardi and the fabulous handbag 🙂
I also like the second outfit and I can’t go without mentioning those pretty ankle boots – love them!

    • Thx Lu!! I love those grey jeans myself. They go with all types of outfits- add a bit of coolness 🙂 Hope your week started off great, XOXO, Elif

  • Adoring both looks! I love the print top, but those slouchy pants look like a great dress up/dress down piece that would find a great home in any wardrobe!

  • The first look is such a “Portland” Look. I love it!

    • Isn’t it Rachel :-)) I thought so too. Thx lovely, XOXO, Elif

  • Golden Tote seems like a fun service for fashionistas! I love the second look, by the way. The pants is gorgeous and the sweater is lovely!!

Visiting from the linkup. I’d love it if you can visit my blog, too. Looking forward to seeing you there:

    • It is the most fun service ever!! Everyone who tries them once gets hooked. Thx for stopping by Abby!! XOXO, Elif

  • I’ve been wanting to try Golden Totes. I think I’m going to wait a little bit longer before I try it, but your reviews are helpful in deciding!

    • Elizabeth I think when you decide to try them you won’t be disappointed. The cutest brands, and the most amazing deals. Plus the ladies at Golden Tote Trading Group just lovely! XOXO, Elif

  • Oly

    Love the floppy hat!
