Good Morning lovelies! How is your weekend going so far? I am still recovering from Halloween festivities, & all that entails for me with three super excited kids having various school parties, costumes, and trick & treating. Good thing we all love Halloween, and had a great time. Hope yours was fab as well!
I am so excited to be back with a brand new Golden Tote Review. In case you are new to theboxqueen, it’s best if you start by reading my previous Golden Tote reviews. There is so much information there on the company, how the monthly sales work, and many examples of brands, and kinds of styles they carry. I also strongly urge you to sign up to Golden Tote Newsletter if you haven’t already. Each month when Golden Tote announces their sales, things sell out in a matter of minutes, and that is not an exaggeration. When you are signed up, you get emails on when sales start, and also occasional style ideas, and owner interviews.
In October I went with the small tote. I was actually going to purchase the large tote this month, however I had to be at my son’s school until 9:30, was home by 10:00, and of course my favorite two picks were already sold out- the goldfish print blouse, and the anorak with patterned back. ( See why I say above, sign up to that newsletter 🙂 ) Those two were really the only picks I had from the large tote, so I decided to go with the high waisted relaxed pants in olive green from the $49 tote.
My surprise item is Cut & Sew Jewel Toned cardigan. I frequent Golden Tote Trading Group. ( a closed group any Golden Tote fan can become a part of) The girls there is just fabulous, it’s a wonderful place to chat with other GT fans, become friends, trade or sell your GT pieces.
While I was waiting on my tote, I became nervous that I would receive the Jewel Toned Cardigan as my surprise as the reviews were less than thrilling on the Facebook page. It’s Murphy’s Law right? Fear and you shall receive haha. I did end up with the Cut & Sew Cardigan, and I am so delighted to say I LOVE it!!
I must say I do agree with a lot of the girls. Styled just as it is, the cardigan is not very flattering. It hits my body right at my waist, and makes it look thick while giving me an extra layer of tummy I don’t really need, especially when I have enough baby pooch there. 🙂 It’s nicely longer in the back but the front needs to be longer to be used unstyled.
However listen to these two style tips that changed how I viewed this surprise piece. Maybe they’ll help you find new love for yours as well:
- Style Tip 1: This cardigan lends itself perfectly to a boho chic look with the southwestern inspired patterns. You can tie it in the front just as I did making sure the tied up part is not too high but rests right around or below your belly button. This immediately gives you the curvy look with a defined waist, and covers any pooch that may lie there ( like mine LOL ) The long style of the back is accentuated by this styling and is more of a statement. Just add some layered necklaces, ripped jeans, any kinds of boots, and some fun accessories, and you are ready for a fun day.
- Style Tip 2: Two days later I wore the same cardigan with a flowy, skater skirt. I let it lie flat and belted it with a wide belt. I wore a tank top inside, and finished up with booties. A slightly girlier look that solved the problem of the cardigan.

My second piece, the high waisted slouchy pants, were made from just the fabric I was imagining it would be. It has a bit of give, but it holds itself enough to look more formal when you want it to. ( compared to sweatshirt type materials) The pockets are also placed at a great angle.
Style Tip: Although I think these pants could potentially be worn with flats, I recommend that you pair them up with heels, even if it’s comfy wedges. I think the bunched up hems look best on top of high heeled shoes, and the silhouette looks slimmer with heels as the slouchy pants already add a bit of volume to the figure.
I chose a silver knit, a silver & transparent mix statement necklace to go with the outfit.
My peep toe lace booties, and Kate Spade crossbody/shoulder bag as well as a couple fun rings completed my look.
