I am reporting from Caldera Springs; a lovely vacation home neighborhood in Sunriver, Oregon.( btw they don’t have any idea about me writing this, I am just a regular fan 🙂 ) It’s
our winter tradition to come here for a ski trip, and rent a house. Mt. Bachelor nearby is great
for skiing, snowboarding, and tubing.
There is a pretty lake in front of the house. In Sunriver there are also bike trails for biking & walking, the place is a golf lover’s paradise, and the stables in town are great for horseback riding expeditions. Kids are happy, hubby is happy, and I absolutely adore the place.
Now the funny part. We usually come here for three, or four nights. How much luggage does one need for a brief getaway? Technically it shouldn’t be more than one big luggage for the whole family right? Well in my case the answer historically has always been “wrong”.
Here is a sample conversation between me & the hubs when he is loading the car.
Me: Can you pick up the brown suitcase in the hallway hon. It’s all ready to go.
Hubby: Wow you did great. Just one piece for us all??
Me: Huh, no! That’s just for my shoes. There are three more big ones upstairs.
This conversation is usually followed by his regular failed attempts to convince me I’ll survive with just two pairs of shoes ( yeah right!!), and me going through the motions of smiling, and nodding while huffing & puffing to zip up an overstuffed bag. I don’t know why I am so much better at this for summer getaways. However winter trips are tough. ( see my Summer weekend Beach Getaway post here)
This time I wanted to surprise him. This time I thought I can do this, and live on a well chosen list. I am thrilled to say I succeeded, and survived. 🙂 I found the same items ( or super similar ones) below, and put them in a list for you. These items are all you need for expedition, dining, date night at a winter weekend getaway. ( I also have snow apparel with me which is separate from this list)
List of Items You Need
Snow boots Puella top ( same brand super cute option)
Kut From The Kloth red pants Also seen in my Stitch Fix reviews here, and here ( best pants ever!!)
Free People Skinny Jeans Chevron Top (sweater option I like)
Navy hat (super cute similar option)
Colorful Bag – FOLEY & CORINNA
Clutch ( lovely clutch)
Blanket scarf ( from Little Lace Box )
Pumps – Red option & Striped option
Shorts (To wear around the house)
Most of the items above in my list are from Golden Tote’s January Mystery Tote. If you’ve been visiting TheBoxQueen for a while, you probably already know my
obsession love for Golden Tote. If you are new you can find all my Golden Tote reviews, including last year’s Mystery Tote, here. Golden Tote also has regular monthly tote sales that are wildly popular, and sell out quickly. You can sign up to Golden Tote newsletter to get updates on the sales.
Puella Swing Top The first item in the mystery Golden Tote was this top from Puella. I’ve seen this top in the Golden Tote Trading Group ( a great Facebook group you can become a member of when you buy a Golden Tote. Has the nicest ladies.), and thought it was really cute. I wear a LOT of leggings, and skinny jeans, and these kind of tops are perfect over them.
The second item in Golden Tote mystery tote is this plaid Priddy dress. I LOVE this dress. The fit is wonderful, and the colors are dark, and rich perfect for winter. I would normally pair this dress with tights, but I thought bare legs would show you the length better.
These shorts were the third item of the tote. I’ll be the first to admit I wasn’t beyond thrilled to find these shorts in there. I am all about winter right now, and was hoping for all long sleeves. They are perfect for wearing around the house tough. I already has similar shorts with me to wear as pajama bottoms, but these could easily work for the same purpose.
The last Golden Tote Mystery Tote piece is the dolman sleeve patterned top. I’ll show you how I wear it in two outfits.
Style Tip: You can multi-task your snow boots for morning walks, and coffee breaks. Here I matched mine with skinny jeans, the dolman top, my ski jacket, and a blanket scarf for a warm outfit. I like that when I take off my ski jacket there is a colorful, cheerful top inside.
Just with a change of shoes you can elevate the style of the dolman top to something fancier. Let your hair loose, and you are ready for dinner.
What do you pack for winter getaways? Have you purchased the January mystery Golden Tote? Which pieces did you get? Would love to hear!
