Today I am combining my Pretties Series, with the Triple Threat.

This winter I’ve really been into midi skirts. ( You can see how I wore a baby blue midi, and a
striped one here) I’ve been wanting to find a midi dress with the right fit & shape to add to my
closet. I needed this midi dress to be easy to wear. You know how I love to be able to utilize
my pieces in many outfits (see my Triple Threat series), so this dress needed to be glam with the right accessories, and casual when toned down. I am happy to say I found my unicorn. ( and 7 more of them you’ll see below 🙂 )

First of all let’s chat about the beautiful dresses I found. All of these are versatile midi’s that you can use in a variety of looks. I highly recommend the Off The Shoulder Midi ( that I also have). This dress has a lovely fit, and it’s so easy to re-purpose into a skirt with tops over, or be worn under a chunky cardigan with ankle boots & layered necklaces boho chic style.

In case you are looking for a fancier fabric, try this gorgeous red piece. Very eye catching, and great for special events at a wonderful price point.

This brings me to my midi dress from eShakti. When I had the opportunity to choose a piece from their collection, I was instantly drawn to this navy blue dress (now sold out), with a straight fit, midi length, a belt, and a keyhole opening. I knew I could style it for different occasions, and I’ll show you how.

First a little background information on eShakti. They are a unique company that carry many pretty pieces, but more importantly the company offers customization for each purchase at an affordable price point.

In their own words, each style is cut to order. You enter your measurements, your height, and you even have the option of changing up styles like choosing a type of collar, a belt, or certain length. Totally cool. You need to try at least once to see how the customization process gives you the perfect fit. I feel like I got an amazing fit with my dress.

Now let’s move on to How to Style that midi dress of yours.

How To Style A Midi Dress – Office

Style Tip: I think midi dresses are made for the office. When I was working in marketing, I wore them all the time. All you need to style a midi dress for work is comfortable pumps, a handbag that can carry your phone, tablet, and work related files from time to time, and you are effortlessly dressed for that important meeting.

Style Tip: I have so much love for re-purposing pieces. I feel like it gives me creative freedom, helps me express my imagination with my outfits, and also lets me multi-task my favorite items. You can do the same, and turn your midi dresses into long, midi skirts. Here I used a denim shirt, and tied it in the front to give that laid-back casual feel to my midi. I could wear this outfit literally anywhere, and not feel overdressed.

Style Tip: In your accessories try using colors that mirror what’s in the dress to support the casual, neutral look. Here I went with silver blue accessories, and a cobalt handbag to add a fun element.

Oh my God Elif! You cannot just show off the most georgous sandals and say “they are sold off”. They are to die for! The dress is so elegant. I love the cutout on the front. Definitelely, a dress I would enjoy wearing to work. It fits perfectly on you. For my body type, I prefer dresses that hit right over the knees and have a hourglass figure. I loved the eShakti concept very much as I often have trouble finding clothes that are just right. Many need some alteration.

    • Theboxqueen

Aren’t those sandals gorgeous?? When I bought them they were sold out in a couple weeks. I think this dress would look amazing on your shape. I love how eShakti has different length options. I hear you when you say alterations, so may pieces need that. I like that the company customizes pieces so there is no need for alterations. 🙂 Happy Thursday. XOXO, Elif

  • Gorgeous dress, you look fabulous! I’m not sure I would wear it to the office due to the peek-a-boo cleavage. In the latest segment of ‘Modern Family’, which was so funny, there was an employee who exposed too much cleavage at the office and they were trying to figure out a way to get her to dress appropriately. But it’s the perfect dress for a night out, and I really love how you styled it for everyday. I also love your coat and scarf! Gorgeous! I don’t wear dresses too often, but I do wear midi length, along with many other lengths. I love them all and don’t stick to only one length.

    • Theboxqueen

Thanks so much Amy. 🙂 I really enjoyed the shape on this dress. I get what you mean about too much cleavage at the office ( I love Modern Family as well haha) but I think this dress can be appropriate for the office actually. ( It may depend on the chest size though, mine is on the smaller side )
Working/interning at corporations in US & Europe, I’ve actually witnessed much worse LOL. A solution may be to wear a low cut tank under to cover up the area. Of course there are the above choices which would work for every body & office type. The blue dress, or the black midi’s maybe? Have a fab Thursday Amy, XOXO, Elif

  • Cheryl

I’m in love with your dress! I also love the different ways you styled it- so versatile. I like midi styles, but at almost 5’4 the length can be the tiniest bit “off,” on me, so it takes some time to find the right fit. That’s why the eShakti concept sounds so interesting; I love the idea of having a perfect, customized fit. Thanks for sharing this!

    • Theboxqueen

We are about the same height Cheryl, and I get how longer styles can be overwhelming for our figures. I like midi dresses when they are more fitted; that way the style doesn’t feel like it’ll swallow you up (compared to a full skirt midi dress). :-)) Also it’s fun to re-purpose them as skirts. eShakti has a really cool concept. You can customize so many features of their pieces. Hope you are having a lovely Thursday lovely! XOXO, Elif

  • ADA

That navy midi dress is beautiful. It sort of has a retro 60s feel to it. I love all 3 ways you styled it. And I must say each pair of shoes are gorgeous, also. My most favorite is the night look though.

Enjoy your Valentine’s Day, Beautiful Elif!

    • Theboxqueen

Valentine’s day was really fun, both with my hubby; and the afternoon part when we actually celebrated my 5 year olds bday. 🙂 I love the navy dress myself, and yes it definitely has the retro feel. Fun talking to you always dear. XOXO, Elif

  • Colette McMorrow Mulhall

I LOVE all your dresses. But, they are “below the knee” length, not midi. Midi length is half way between the knee & the ankle… mid calf. I, too, am 5’4″ I can & do wear “below the knee” length, but I can’t wear midi length. Eshakti does offer quite a few lengths, as you know… mini, above the knee, below the knee, mid calf (midi).

    • Theboxqueen

Colette thx for stopping by and welcome to TheBoxQueen! Happy to hear you like the dresses. Although I hear you in terms of dress lengths, in my collage most of the dressed were labeled as midi by the retailers if you click on them. I also saw this recently at a lot of style events I attended, and boutique openings lots of dresses this lenght were labeled midi( although I know in the traditional chart they aren’t LOL) Mine was supposed to look more of a midi but that’s another story. Appreciate you chiming in. Happy Sunday!!

      • Colette McMorrow Mulhall

LOL! Well. what the length is called, the below the knee length of your dresses is perfect for you. In every picture you look great!! Maybe, names of lengths have changed. Although, I wonder what the industry would now call the “true” midi length… the length that is half way between the knee & ankle??
