Today is the day we are bending the rules. Today is the day we all find a shade of yellow that looks amazing on us. It’s the time to discover a way to wear yellow in our spring outfits, and feel confident, and comfortable with our color choice. I am so happy to be teaming up with HPX360 ( which has been an amazing inspiration btw as you’ll see below) to show you 4 ways to wear yellow, and to share my styling tips.

Where did this talk of yellow come from you may ask? Read on ladies to find out.

Spring is just around the corner. With it, it brings spring fashion trends, and lots of excitement for us ladies who love to shop. One of the 2015 spring trends that caught my eye on the runway, and in celebrity outfits, is the color yellow. Not the mellow kind either, but the bold, loud type.

It’s great news for me as I’ve always loved yellow, and have worn it in some way, & form over the years consistently. After each of my style posts with outfit tips though, without fail, I receive reader emails asking me how to wear yellow. I understand it may be an intimidating color to add to your closets.

Taking my cue from the 4 cool “modes” of my new tech pretty HP X360, ( you’ll see this gadget is gorgeous) I am showing you 4 ways you can wear this happy go lucky, warm, cheerful, and energetic hue of the color rainbow.

HP X360 LAPTOP MODE & YELLOW JACKET OUTFIT

While HP X360 bends the rules of technology, it can still be used in the conventional laptop mode. As a blogger you can find me using this mode frequently. This mode inspired my yellow blazer outfit.

Yellow Style Tip: When wearing yellow, the number one rule is to find a shade that complements your complexion. If you are a brunette like me you’ll look better with a brighter shade of yellow such as this canary yellow jacket. In general, blondes look better in golden tones of yellow.

Yellow Style Tip 2: As yellow is already loud enough as a color, keep the shape of your clothing pieces simple, and clean. Trust me you can wear yellow, even if you stayed away from it until now.

If you are newly dipping your toes in this color, just make sure to wear it in universally flattering, effortless shapes like my blazer. Also using the color in separates break up the intensity of it if you feel like starting small.

Yellow Style Tip: I think you can have a lot of fun with your make-up while wearing yellow. I personally think yellow + red lips = Magic. 🙂

HP X360 TABLET MODE AND YELLOW JEANS OUTFIT

I love that HP X360 has a detachable keyboard, and can easily be used in tablet mode. It’s a really nice mode to use. The screen is huge compared to regular tablets so it is much easier on the eyes. My colorful outfit is inspired by the detachable keyboard which makes HP X360 special, and different.

Yellow Style Tip: Wearing yellow away from your face is a great way to compromise if you are not comfortable having the color right next to your complexion. These ankle length yellow skinny jeans are the perfect shade of yellow, almost making them a neutral.

Yellow tones go perfectly with so many other spring colors such as pink, green, and purple. If you want to feel extra cheerful, and happy, mix up yellow with other fun colors like I did. See above how the yellow pants anchor the outfit in a more muted shade.

I love the touch screen of HP X360. I also love taking it with me to play around with various apps, to check my e-mail, and of course it’s a lifesaver when on the road with the kids.

HP X360 STAND MODE AND YELLOW CLUTCH OUTFIT

The stand mode of HP X360 is great for watching your favorite TV shows without the keyboard on your way. I also use this mode for talking with family, & friends that live far away.

Yellow Style Tip: I can almost hear some of you say to me ” Elif, how about those of us, who don’t want to wear yellow in big portions? ” I have a solution for you ladies as well. Use yellow in small doses, like in a necklace, scarf, or in my case a clutch. In this outfit I use two tones of yellow. A big, & bold shade of yellow in my clutch, and gold tones in my peep toe heels.

When in doubt, pair yellow with black. I think in fashion, black is the color that makes everything all right, and safer. 🙂 Add in a fun second accent color like my emerald green flower necklace, and your outfit will be current with little touches of yellow.

HP X360 TENT MODE AND YELLOW IN A FITNESS OUTFIT

hp_2661The tent mode of HP X360 is by far my kid’s favorite way to use it. They love to lay on the floor when they are watching things, and this mode is also perfect for drawing together on a picnic blanket on a nice sunny full day at the park.

Yellow Style Tip: As a fan of physical activity, sports, and fitness I wanted to show you how I wear yellow in my fitness outfits. Yellow is a color that highlights. ( think of all those highlighter pens you used at school, or maybe still use at your office) Wear it in an area that you want to accentuate.

In fitness outfits, I love to use it on the upper area of my body, as super tight fitness capris, or leggings can be tougher to wear in yellow. You would of course apply this to your own body shape. As I stated above yellow goes lovely with many other spring colors, and here I chose to mix it with pink, and a pop of green.

Sunday was such a sunny day here in the NW, so not typical. It had to be enjoyed. My family spent a huge portion of the day at our neighborhood park. If you look closely we are drawing hearts with the first letters of our names. <3

HP has also been bending the rules in their partnership with Meghan Trainor, documenting her first ever tour with HP X360. “All About That Tour” is a six episode documentary that is put together with the help of fans, and influencers.  It is a behind the scenes look to everything from the tour life of Meghan Trainor, to her costumes. So fun, and original. I like her song All About That Bass. Perfect for singing to myself while driving haha.

Which yellow outfit would you wear? What is your favorite way to wear this trendy color? Which mode of HP X360 would you use the most? I would LOVE to hear your thoughts!!

I love yellow! It’s such a great color for spring, and I think of it as a neutral that can pair with many other colors. My favorite pairings are yellow and grey or olive green for an understated look, and yellow and cobalt for a bold look.

    • Theboxqueen

Those pairing all sound so fabulous!! I LOVE olive green, and cobalt and yellow is so pretty together. I am so happy you like yellow as much as I do. <3 Happy Thursday dear! XOXO, Elif

  • I only own two yellow items in my closet…a cardigan, and a tee shirt. I’m trying to change that as I have noticed that yellow is the ‘it’ color this spring. I love the yellow blazer outfit! You look fabulous in it!

    • Theboxqueen

Try to incorporate more yellow into your outfits Amy. 🙂 It does seem like a lot of readers have limited amount of yellow in their closets. Talking to some friends they also echoed the same. I am so happy it is an “in” color this spring as I think there is a yellow out there for everyone :-)) Love that yellow blazer myself, thanks!! XOXO, Elif

  • Sophia

I am excited for yellow and enjoyed all your suggestions. All your outfits look so cute. I’ll take your tip to wear it as a highlighter to highlight my favorite body parts. HPx360 looks pretty neat too.

    • Theboxqueen

Try that Sophia, yellow is such a fab color to highlight those parts of your body you love. ( though I strongly believe we need to accept ourselves completely flaws and all, but I know we sometimes have favorites :-)) HP x360 is too cool yes! XOXO, Elif

  • Jennifer Jordan Fox

You look great in anything, suffice it to say. Will you do a post on how you create those beautiful waves in your hair?

    • Theboxqueen

Jennifer that’s so very sweet of you to say. Thanks! Of course I have many of my tired mommy moments 🙂 Yes I’ll absolutely do a hair wave tutorial sometime soon. You like the kind of waves in this post? (or the more loose kind I do sometimes? ) XOXO, Ellif

      • Jennifer Jordan Fox

        Both kinds 🙂

        • Theboxqueen

          Jennifer note taken :-))

  • All of these outfits look amazing on you! I only have a few yellow pieces in my closet and they rarely get worn. This has definitely inspired me to bring them out for spring!

Ways to use a computer versus ways to use a color…An interesting parallel. I use yellow a lot in my outfits. I used to own an HP, it was a decent one.

    • Theboxqueen

I thought it would be interesting too. 🙂 Loved putting the post together. Yellow is so happy, and cheerful. Love it!! XOXO, Elif

  • These are great ways to wear yellow! I love the yellow clutch with the black outfit to add a pop of colour. I can’t wait for Spring!~

    • Theboxqueen

Spring can’t come fast enough. 🙂 So happy you liked the yellow options. Dressing up all black with a pop of color is always in I think. <3 Happy Sunday. XOXO, Elif

  • Starla

Ahhh, great job- pretty lady! 🙂 I love the blazer look, it is definitely my favorite. Those jeans! Where are they from? You have got to give me insight, lol! xo

    • Theboxqueen

Of course I will. The ones with the blazer look are from Zara. I got them while traveling overseas last summer. (though they also have an online US store) So happy you like Starla. 🙂 Thanks for saying hi! Happy Sunday. XOXO, Elif

  • ADA

You look fantastic in yellow. I love the first two outfits, a lot. I want the yellow blazer and EVERYTHING you have on in the second outfit. The colorblocked flats and peplum floral top are just too cute.
