For this edition of my traveling post I am so very happy to be sharing with you one of the loveliest destinations in my own state, Oregon. I am talking about Tulip Festival that takes place from March 20 to May 3. If you are coming to the NW during these dates, you NEED to visit the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm located in Woodburn Oregon, and make a fun day of it. We’ve made it a family tradition to visit the farm every year the past ten years.
Ladies if you like flowers, and breathtaking nature ( seriously don’t we all love those), you’ll have the best time here. This place has everything for you to have a beautiful day outdoors with your family, friends or significant other. You’ll see all the hues of the color palette in the gorgeous blooms of tulips, take picture after picture, and if you have kids they’ll run from one activity to the other.
Get ready to see a lot of photos of our day below, and make sure to look under the pics for tips on how to make your day go more smoothly . 🙂 Also don’t forget to enter the giveaway for a kid’s gardening set just by commenting at the end of this post.
As expected there a couple more activities offered in the farm during the weekends. Historically we’ve always visited the Tulip Festival on Sundays. This year we had the opportunity to go during the week for a change, and I absolutely LOVED this week day visit.
You beat the crowds, and actually other than a couple vendors that sells things, and inflatables, we found that most of the kids activities we like were still there. TOTALLY RECOMMEND you go during weekdays. You can also take your dogs with you. <3
This is the view that welcomes you to the farm.
You need to start by taking a pic in front of the windmill at the garden near the entrance. ( see the red kiosk on the background where you pay, before you go to park your car) 🙂
After you park your car, take a right to see the gift shop, and this cool truck surrounded by gorgeous tulips, and ginormous wooden shoes. This area also has food, and tables to sit if you’ve been driving for too long, and are already hungry.
As our drive is about an hour, and not particularly long, we don’t usually feel hungry for a full meal by the time we arrive at the farm. As a family with young kids we do need healthy, easy to carry& eat, and as the requirement from the kids, yummy snacks though.
For any type of day long outing I always pack two big boxes of Tree Top strawberry apple sauce pouches I buy from our local store QFC.
I think taking nutritious snacks, that are fuss free, and easy to eat is one of the best tips I can give you while traveling with kids, or taking day trips such as this one. My family has been eating Tree Top pouches for a very long time. They come from a company founded in our neighbor state Washington, and the pouches are made of wholesome ingredients that increase the fruit intake of our kids diets.
I know, and appreciate that Tree Top grows, and produces world-class fruit products. My hubby and I eat them too. YUMM.
Ok so before you move onto the activities area, pls take a picture here. Life is better when you don’t take yourself too seriously right? 🙂 I love being silly with my kids.
Here you can see the huge area where your kids can play with all kinds of unique playground equipment. Check out the swings in the background, they are tires made into horses that work as swings. So cool!!
These wooden shoe pull wagons are scattered everywhere. Hubby is pulling our oldest who is not sure about sitting in the wagon but can’t resist haha.
Check out the plastic cylinders coming together to make one original slide. It’s pretty steep too; all the more reason for my kids to go bonkers over them while giving me some heart palpitations. (especially when the youngest starts climbing)
We are playing farm with a cow shaped wagon. If you have kids you need to find these when you go.
After playtime, kids need to re-energize and this is a great point when you can take a snack break. I appreciate how mess free the Tree Top pouches are. When kids are hurrying, wanting to go back to play, they are not particularly neat, or careful.
In effort to bring awareness to “Raising Good Apples”, Tree Top is partnering with The National Gardening Association’s KidsGardening.org to help educate kids on gardening. For every box of Tree Top Apple Sauce Pouches purchased through 5/31 Tree Top will donate $1 to help KidsGardening.org to help build and grow youth gardens.
You can see here how wooden shoes are made. After you are done with the activities area your next stop will be the fields of prettiness.
Look at all the variations in the same color family, and the wide, beautiful spread of tulips. You can buy bulbs via the gift store to grow these beauties in your own garden.
One of my favorite views of the day. I love taking photos at this place. The field was filled with people who were taking wedding, graduation, baby pictures among this vast loveliness, even during the week.
One of my favorite stops of the day was playing with this pink tractor. I mean, I mentioned its PINK right? 🙂 <3
