You heard it right ladies, I’ve already started planning my outfits for the upcoming fall season
although I am still happily wearing my summer pieces. I know it’s still insanely hot in most
parts of the US, and I blame all the great sales for my recent fall shopping sprees.
One of the pieces I did end up getting is this amazing plaid shirt that you see below. ( along
with two new shoes you see on the left and right) It is just the perfect fall item and a “never out of style” pattern.
Today I’ll show you my favorite 3 ways to wear a plaid shirt. Wondering the best part? I’ll also share with you how you can increase your savings on your favorite purchases with a new website I was excited to discover- Splender.
Splender is such a welcome find for women who love shopping ( pretty much us 🙂 ) from the stores they love, but who also love to get the best deals at the same time. I personally love to shop from stores like Nordstrom, Sephora, and J.Crew and appreciate purchasing well-made, high quality brands. I am also all for making smart shopping decisions.
I bought my plaid shirt, and the shoes from Nordstrom through Splender. The savings have been remarkable as the anniversary sale was going on, and I’ll get 4% cash back on my purchases which increases my savings. Yay! (makes me feel better about my splurges) Splender is very easy to use, free to join, and works at 800 + stores!
FROM THEBOXQUEEN’S CLOSET – THREE WAYS TO WEAR A PLAID SHIRT
Ok now on to the outfits! I can’t wait to show you 3 ways I plan to wear my plaid shirt in a couple months, when it gets a bit chillier outside. Actually I find plaid to be so versatile, and such a classic that I could probably find 100 ways to wear the same shirt LOL. These 3 are a good representation of how my most frequently worn outfits with the shirt will look like 🙂 Make sure to check-out under the pics for some style tips.
1) PLAID SHIRT AND RIPPED JEANS
When I saw this Free People plaid shirt with the super cool shoulder detail I knew it had to be mine. The shirt was on sale at Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale, and shopping through Splender I took advantage of the rebate they had going on at the moment and will be getting 4% cash back on my purchase on top of that. As a result I saved over $40 on the shirt with the combined deals. This is how the Splender Cash Back Process Works:
- You select a store on Splender Website
- You click a deal/offer and get transferred to your chosen store’s Website
- You complete your purchase there
- The store than pays Splender a commission that they share with you in the form of cash. You can withdraw that cash via paypal when it’s in your account. – EASY! 🙂
Isn’t the shoulder detail something special? I absolutely adore it!
STYLE TIP: One of my go to outfits with my plaid shirts is pairing them with my beloved ripped jeans. If you’ve been reading TheBoxQueen for a while, you probably already know that I have at least ten pairs of destroyed jeans; possibly more. 🙂 I make the outfit a bit more fun with a glam crystal statement necklace, and colorful pumps. A silver clutch helps keep the look sleek, and adds some more sparkle.
You can see me in a similar outfit to this one, during any given day in the fall.
2) PLAID SHIRT + FITTED SKIRT + PEEP -TOE BOOTIES
This outfit is another look that I love to wear in the fall. A fitted skirt, a plaid shirt, and trendy cut-out peep-toe booties is just the type of combination I would choose to wear for a date with my husband, lunch with friends, or for a nice Saturday afternoon.
STYLE TIP: Pick a fitted skirt with a heavier fabric, ( they stay put and don’t bunch up 🙂 ) preferably with some detailing similar to my smoked grey skirt, and pair it with your favorite plaid shirt. Plaid shirts look great with statement necklaces. In this outfit I chose layered strands of pearls.
Choose a neutral shoulder bag to balance the colors, and a different neutral color in your shoes ( like my light grey booties) to keep the outfit modern, and not matchy-matchy. As I love a bit of whimsy in my outfits, I also added a leopard belt to the mix. It’s very thin and adds a fun factor without clashing with the plaid. <3
These heels are surprisingly comfortable. Looks can be deceiving 🙂
3) PLAID SHIRT + LEGGINGS + CHUNKY HEEL BOOTIES
This third outfit is the epitome of my daily uniform when I am on mom duty; volunteering at my kids’ schools, driving them around, or while running errands. It’s so comfortable but is still put together. (compared to my fitness outfits I want to live in LOL)
STYLE TIP: Pick a legging with a lot of stretch to it. It’ll help you stay cozy all day long, and the fit will be better. You can still wear heels if you love them as much as I do, but choose chunky heels that are easy to walk, and drive in. A medium sized shoulder bag, big enough to carry all your day essentials, is perfect to be worn on your shoulder, or as a cross-body. I chose a bright green bag to cheer up the neutral tones of my navy/brown/cream look. A delicate necklace, and a cuff bracelet completes your comfy day outfit.
