The clock is ticking for 2016. As I am reflecting on 2015, I notice every day that although I have some great systems in place to take good care of myself and my family, there is still a LOT of room for improvement.

The thing is, I’ve always been a multi-tasker. There are so many different things in life that intrigue me. So much I want to learn, do, and see. As is the challenge with so many of us, I
want to do it all, and want to be good at them, too, haha. Add my packed schedule with the kids, our social life, and my blogging passion, and I purposefully need to seek balance. I need to weave some more wellness ideas into my everyday.

1) GET MORE AND QUALITY SLEEP

I usually do things for myself in the evening after the kids go to sleep. I take my baths, read my books, do the laundry, and finish most of my blogging related work. The evening hours go well into the night, and my sleep can suffer as a result. I’ll be mindful to balance this a bit better, and get more sleep in 2016.

Another sleep problem I sometimes have is due to international travels. We travel internationally almost every year, and on both ways I get major jet lag. Both my husband, and I plan to supplement with Nature’s Truth Melatonin the next time we fly overseas. Our friends tried it and really liked the results. I read up on it and learned that Melatonin is a hormone that helps maintain the body’s circadian rhythm, and it helps improve the quality of rest. * When our levels get low, sleep can be broken and restless. 2) START TAKING YOUR VITAMINS AND SUPPLEMENTS MORE REGULARLY

I know I need to take my vitamins daily. I am not too bad at this, but I can always do better. I want to make sure not to skip taking them; sometimes in extra busy mornings I am guilty of just that. One supplement I am adding to my routine is Fish Oil. I’ve been hearing about the benefits of Omega-3. I read that Fish Oil may help to maintain health in more than one area.

There is even supportive, but not conclusive research, that consumption of EPA and DHA Omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. ** Nature’s Truth Fish Oil with natural lemon flavor (to prevent the fishy aftertaste) contains EPA and DHA & Omega-3 fatty acids. 3) INCREASE YOUR DAILY EXERCISE

I always have fitness goals. Working out is an important part of my life, and an area where there is no limit. I feel like you can never say I am the most fit I can be. There are always more ways you can stay active and moving.

I take my dog Emma to daily walks (besides more structured workouts). This is of course beneficial for physical health, but as importantly it is also a time I clear my head, and rest my mind. I plan to increase our walks in increments, and hopefully will add thirty minutes to them everyday.

4) HAVE TECH- FREE TIME

As I believe wellness comes from the mind, as much as the body, I want to start de-charging by having tech-free time every single day. I’ve always been someone who wants to stay in touch; even years and years before smart phones and blogging.

Now that I have both in my life, I feel like my phone has become an ever loyal sidekick. I catch myself constantly checking my emails when I find a couple minutes, responding to Facebook & Instagram comments, texting friends. Now don’t get me wrong, I enjoy all these. I accept that my phone is important for my lifestyle. On the other hand, one of my goals for 2016 is to have tech-free hours every single day to reset and just live. 🙂

5) FOCUS ON THE PRESENT 

I think we can all benefit from focusing on the present. When I find myself thinking of the next task, event, or appointment I stop, take a big breath and re-focus my attention to the present. It’s not easy and takes a lot of practice everyday. I’ll keep working on this for my wellness in 2016, too. Carpe Diem, ladies.

  • I’ve gone through periods where I stay up too late and I started setting a bedtime alarm to remind me to unplug and go to bed! It works!

    I’ve also found melatonin to be very helpful for improving the quality of my sleep, not just during travel, but anytime I notice I’m not sleeping well and/or having trouble falling asleep at night.
