One of the questions I get asked a lot by my close friends, and family members, is how to get a beautiful smile in pictures. I take a LOT of photos for TheBoxQueen but they know that in real life, I am a big fan of documenting our day to day as well.

At get togethers & parties, I am always the one gathering everyone for a group photo. I love
to have a visual memory of the day and the people I love to the point that when friends & family see me approach, they start to smile knowing what’s coming haha. I am also snapping
away various family photos through out the week. ( Just ask my tween who sometimes loves this, and other times not so much 🙂 )

As someone who takes so many photos, and loves smiling by nature, I have some tips and tricks on How To Get A Beautiful Smile in Pictures. Here we go lovelies.

HOW TO GET A BEAUTIFUL SMILE IN PICTURES

1) THINK OF SOMEONE YOU LOVE WHEN SMILING

I think a natural smile is the most beautiful smile. You know the kind that makes the sides of your eyes crinkle, and that radiates happiness. Taking photos, especially professional ones like family photos, or engagement photos, can feel unnatural though especially if you are not used to taking a load of pictures. A good tip I was told years ago by our wedding photographer was to think of someone I love every time I had my photos taken. This relaxes the face muscles, and gives our smile a softer, more natural look. I do this every time, and it works wonders.

2) PRACTICE YOUR ANGLES IN FRONT OF A MIRROR

I never did this one before I started taking blog pictures. I quickly learned that all of us have a good angle, or in better words a head position in which our smile looks the best. For most people it is the head tilted to the side a little, standing upright with good posture, and a natural chin that is not raised. I for one used to have a tendency to raise my chin while looking at the camera. I purposefully reminded myself to drop it each time, and trained myself so to speak.

3) A HEALTHY SMILE IS A BEAUTIFUL SMILE

It’s a fact that a healthy smile is a beautiful smile. I do brush my teeth twice a day, and do my best to remember to floss daily, especially for gum health, and to avoid tooth decay. For a healthy and white smile, I also meticulously keep track of yearly dental check ups as well as twice a year professional teeth cleaning appointments.

We are also big believers of purchasing dental insurance. Dental insurance is an important tool in protecting your overall health and the health of your family. Dental procedures, even simple ones, are expensive, and with serious issues the costs multiply.  Both me and my husband had this happen more than once with root canals, and need for bridges. I love that dental insurance is a huge help to cover those costs.

We opt in and get our dental insurance through work, however I came across Guardian Dental Insurance which is accessible nationally, and with various purchase options. Guardian Dental plans can be purchased individually at any time throughout the year. You do not need to have a qualifying event to purchase it. A great option for those of you looking into dental insurance.

4) PRACTICE TO SMILE WITH YOUR EYES

Have you watched that episode a couple years ago of America’s Next Top Model, where the girls were trained to smile with their eyes? 🙂 I think they were on to something, as at the least practicing this softens your eyes, and makes your photos more natural. To learn this, go in front of the mirror and try to express your feelings just through your eyes. See how different feelings change the way you look. I find that the more you learn to smile with your eyes, the more meaningful your photos look.

5) USE MAKEUP THAT HELPS YOUR SMILE APPEAR WHITER

Some lip colors such as berry, rosy pink, red, and colors that have blue undertones make your teeth appear whiter. In my experience a glowing face, especially if it has a touch of bronzer, or a blush with brown tones, helps make teeth look their pearly white best. I can immediately see the difference the makeup I use make on the photos when I compare pictures.

Hope these tips help you get your best smile in photos. Don’t forget to take care of your dental health, and if you need insurance check out the options at Guardian Dental.
