For me sticking to a fitness plan, & eating nutritiously are both easier during my kids school year from September to June. I have a schedule that I make around their pick up times, sports & activities. I have more discipline as I have to fit in all the things we want to do in a set amount of hours.
Summer means vacations, and being away from our regular home life. On vacations, life usually gets lazier. I want to relax, eat ALL the delicious foods, have drinks in pineapples with little umbrellas on top, go on adventures, try new restaurants and lay on a beach chair reading books. AND I do these things I promise! 🙂 I mean a vacation would not be a vacation without spoiling yourself a bit right?
I just follow a couple easy tips to stay as fit as I can & to balance nutrition. These especially help so much during extended trips.
1) Find New Ways To Stay Active At Your Destination
In my experience, finding new, fun activities that’ll keep you moving during vacation is your best way to stay fit. Although I do enjoy going to my fitness club at home, the same gym routines suddenly feel old & boring when I am at a beautiful destination.
Instead I prefer to stay active by doing different outdoor activities. This could be something simple like beach volleyball, a beach run or swimming with my kids. It could also be a bit more elaborate like paddle boarding, a surf lesson or trying water skiing. (That one burns those calories ladies, take my word for it!! 🙂 ) The best part is that all these activities are so fun that you don’t feel like you are working out.
2) Walk When You Can When You Are Sightseeing & Exploring
If your vacation spot is more urban, or a nature escape with lots to see, a sure way to stay fit would be walking. I have many personal experiences with walking during vacations, and actually I prefer it that way as i believe you see way more. I remember walking in Rome for hours on end, and during one of our Paris trips when we were still in college, we stayed at the La Fayette area and walked to Eiffel tower everyday which was over 40 min walk each time.
Now with kids, walking is not as uncomplicated as it used to be. If you can walk though I highly recommend it. You’ll get to see everything us driving folks don’t see AND you’ll stay fit!
3) Take A Natural Fiber Supplement To Control Your Appetite And Cut Down Snacking
I LOVE food. I can’t even imagine not trying out new tastes, and discovering new restaurants on vacation. I however also have tendency to overdo this, especially at all inclusive resorts. The dinners are not a huge problem as we skip the resort buffet for locally famous restaurants. The real problem for me is all the ice cream, five o’clock tea pastries, and appetizers; in other words all the snacking.
Shopping at Walgreens, I learned about Meta Appetite Control, and started to include it in my everyday routine. It has been doing wonders for controlling my snacking craze, and has proved itself on a three day vacation we took recently. I am very careful and don’t just put anything in mu body. I love that Meta Appetite Control is 100% natural psyllium fiber, and the #1 recommended fiber brand at that!!
For me, the time between lunch and dinner is the trickiest. I put 2 teaspoonful of Meta Appetite Control in a tall glass of water, and drink it all up. The psyllium fiber in the powder thickens and forms a gel, which makes me feel full. ( This is also clinically proven!) *
4) Make Breakfast The Biggest Meal of The Day
During vacation brunches are the norm for us. Eating the biggest meal of the day early in the morning gives us more time to burn off all the excess calories during the days activities. This is the perfect time to let yourself have those treats. During dinner time, we still try out all the new cuisines, and restaurants. We just make an effort to make healthier choices so close to the less active night time, and mostly skip dessert.
5) Pack Nutritious Snacks for Flights
Most of the airplane snacks are full of sodium, and fillers. I think packing your own snacks is even more important for longer flights. I take dried apricots, plums, health bars, fruits like bananas, and whole grain nut breads with me. Yummy and healthy!
How do you ladies stay fit on vacation? How do you control your vacation eating? I would LOVE to hear your tips & tricks.
