About two weeks ago, I shared with you my tips on How to Stay Fit During Summer Vacation. We are going on a trip pretty soon, and I am telling you ladies I need to read over those ideas myself, and remind myself not to go overboard. For my Summer Fitness Update, I thought it would be fun to take you guys around the walking trails of my neighborhood. I live in a lovely, and big neighborhood that has seven gorgeous trails that go in and out of greenspace, hidden among 200+ acres. You ladies may have read that I run frequently. Since my kids summer break started, I’ve also been spending A LOT of leisurely time walking the trails with them, and our golden retriever Emma.

My kids grew up in this place since they were tiny babies. We’ve walked these trails a million times, however the surrounding forest, and the environment provide new discoveries every time.  For instance we dubbed this big tree log you see behind me as the “SNAKES CASTLE”.  One day when we were walking with my oldest years ago, we saw a huge, green snake slithering around it. We’ve never seen him since, however the log has never lost its magic.

I sometimes even take my cup of latte with me. These walks are in addition to my runs, but they help keep me in check fitness wise. Much more importantly they are the perfect, unscheduled time to have fun with my kids sometimes for hours.

I also appreciate that these long walks give me time to reflect on life,and to get into the moment. In general, I am a pretty active, energetic type of person, so calming down for a minute every now and then is priceless.

Even though, our fun trail walks are more pleasure than hard core exercise, we walk for extended periods. I still do my stretches beforehand, and encourage my kids to do so as well.

There is a huge neighborhood park right in the middle of it all, complete with a pond. Can you see the duck sitting to my right? There were so many ducklings in the water that we fussed over every time we pass them.

On our vacation, I am looking forward to keep active with water sports, and beach runs. I’ll keep you ladies updated on social media, and here. 🙂

    Your neighboorhood looks gorgeous. I enjoy hiking and swimming in the summer. How frequently do you take the fiber? Once a day? Sounds like a great idea. I am also a major snacker.
