Every year it’s the same. I look forward to summer the whole year. I love the sun, the beach, and of course I am in love with traveling. While I am still fully enjoying the warm season, and the trips we’ve been taking, I’ve already started thinking about my kids’ Back-to-School time approaching pretty soon. Crazy right? Back-to-School means fall, and getting into a whole different mindset. With fall, I make sure to refresh my look with easy changes as a way to prepare for the fast paced life once again. It’s almost like a treat, and in a way, motivate myself for the marathon that is right around the corner haha. Here are five ways I refresh my look for fall.
1) I Incorporate Transitional Fall Pieces Into My Outfits.
One way I change up my look for fall is by starting to bring out my transitional pieces out of the bottom shelves of my closet, and making them more of a focus. Plaid shirts, camo skinnies, vests, light jackets, cardigans, and closed toe shoes are some examples of items that are perfect for the “in between” fall weather that is a bridge from the warm summer to the cold winter.
The outfit I am wearing above is a perfect example of how I would dress up for a day in fall. Dresses are such an effortless pick for me in the summer. I always seem to go back to my trusted skinnies or destroyed denim the moment the weather cools down. In addition, my pumps start to get a lot of use.
Another style change I always make is switching up my wardrobe staples with updated versions. Shorter tops seem to be in style lately, and I’ve just picked up the above crop plaid shirt (that is not too revealing which I appreciated) to update my longer plaids.
2) I Apply Makeup In Neutral Browns, Deep Greens, And Rich Purple Shades.
Another change I make in my look for fall is the colors I use in my makeup. As fall rolls in, my eye makeup seems to move from light blues, and pinks to dark browns, deep greens, and rich jewel tones like purples. For lipstick, I gravitate more frequently towards reds & burgundies (although I use red tones year round as well). As the sun kissed look of my skin starts fading away to a more dull color in fall months, I also use pink and coral toned blushes to give my skin that “just pinched” glow.
3) I Bring Out Fall Scents and Extend It To My Hair Products.
I’ve always had a very good sense of smell. This has sometimes worked against my favor; like when I was a little kid, and refused to eat certain foods because of their smell (and probably drove my mom crazy in the process; sorry mom! :-)) Most of the time though, my love of beautiful scents bring lovely things in our lives, like an amazing scented candle, or a particularly yummy smelling shampoo.
In fall, I start to look for richer scents that remind me of the season, like pumpkin, honey, apple, and cinnamon. I buy a lot of scented candles infused with these and scatter them to every room in our home. I also love when my hair smells fall like, and make sure to add a couple of shampoos with these scents to my collection. I initially told you ladies about Garnier® Whole Blends™ products in this summer updates post. They have paraben-free, gentle formulas, and the repairing Honey Treasures shampoo and shine-inducing Green Apple & Green Tea Extracts shampoo would be great for hair that has been damaged at the pool & under the sun. (Huge bonus: they smell delicious!)
4) I Get A Haircut.
The sun, chlorine in the pool, and even repeated exposure to sea salt damages the hair in the summer. I make to sure to get a haircut close to the end of summer every year, to get rid of dry and split ends, and to make my hair appear healthier.
5) I Change Up My Accessories & Jewelry.
My choice of accessories subtly changes as fall approaches. Instead of the beads, turquoise, and coral pieces of summer, I start using more gold cuffs, pearls, and silver pieces. I also love cute studs, as come turtleneck season, drop earrings become uncomfortable.
How do you ladies refresh your look for fall? What kind of changes do you do? I would LOVE to hear it all. <3 Plus your comment will give you a chance to win a $100 Visa gift card!
