Ladies are you ready to make 2017 your healthiest, most fit year yet? I sure have this very high on my wish list for the year, and of course immediately took action to turn the wish into an actionable plan. You may remember that I’ve briefly talked about this in a recent fitness update. As you may know, I’ve always eaten pretty healthy, and I am especially keen on showing my kids good nutrition habits, and a love for exercise & sports. Since the beginning of this month I’ve started on following up on my goal of even healthier living.
Life does happen and 2016 was the busiest year yet both for me & my family. When you are constantly on the go, sometimes you forget about eating, or may miss a day of workout. I want to make sure in 2017 I am much more consistent in taking care of myself. Are you lovelies with me? Here are some personal guidelines I’ll follow to reach this goal.
Make Healthier Food & Drink Swaps
One of the most important changes I am doing this year is swapping food & drinks with more nutritious, healthier choices. I am swapping white bread with whole wheat version with seeds. Instead of ground beef I am using ground turkey in chili recipes, and soups. Instead of using sugar I am limiting my sugar intake with pitted dates as a sugar source to make yummy snacks such as home made bars or cocoa balls. I even used grated zucchini instead of spaghetti.
Trop50 juice beverage is perfect for this reducing sugar intake purpose as it has the goodness of orange juice but only half the calories & sugar. I love orange juice and love that Trop50 is squeezed from fresh oranges, and that it provides 100% of your Vitamin C needs. As I am closely watching my vitamin intake this year, I am a happy camper with that info. Trop50 has no artificial sweetener which is also great news; I don’t include those at all in our diet.
Move Every Single Day – No Excuses
One of the reasons my weight has mostly been steady since my college years, was how much I always worked out, ran, and been active. Now I want to mention that for me its not really about an exact number on the scale, but its much more about how I feel, and fit in my clothes. I am after feeling fit & healthy.
In 2016, although I probably exercised more than average, for my own fitness levels, I fell a bit behind. This year, as long as I am feeling well of course, I plan to move some way or the other every single day. This could be as simple as walking to our neighborhood coffee shop or as serious as running five miles outside. I need to make moving a priority daily. I also signed up for this online program (which has amazing exercises for shaping up & posture) to help me through super rainy, and lately snowy days of the NW.
Get Your Vitamin D Every Single Day & All the Other Essential Supplements
It’s so easy to lack Vitamin D here in the NW with all the rain we get. As much as I can, between the rain showers, I make sure to be outside under the sun to soak up Vitamin D even for 15 minutes. Of course actually getting your vitamins from fruits, and veggies, and supporting with supplements are also necessary. When my body gets what it needs in terms of vitamins and nutrients, I feel much healthier.
Get Enough & Quality Sleep
One important commitment I need to make to my health is to try and get more sleep. I have always been some type of a night owl. I feel very creative at night time after everyone goes to sleep. In graduate school staying up super late is how I finished my thesis, and its also mostly when I write my blog posts, read my books, and come up with ideas for our life. (especially after kids, its kinda became a necessity to have this me time)
I’ve always loved the feeling of having a full day, and using some part of the night for being even more productive. As the years pass though, I know my body needs more and more sleep. I feel like sleeping about five hours a day really is taking its toll on my skin, and energy lately. I will aim for at least 7 hrs a night this year.
Find What Calms You And Reduce Stress Levels
I think in this day and age we all know how stress affects our health negatively. With our intense schedule every day, I have physical and mental stress like everyone else. Some of the ways I deal with stress is doing breathing exercises, practicing yoga, coloring with my kids, taking walks with my dog, and drawing bubble baths. Whatever works for you ladies, add your own stress reducing activities in your day.
